Planet Terror Vs. Death Proof. Reason If you Can?

I just watched both of these.

Story: Planet Terror is better. Much more story, much more plot. Also, I liked how serious it was, even though it didn't take itself too seriously.

Character buillding: Death Proof wins by a mile. Personally, I would have preferred less of the yakyakyak and more action, but it was supposed to be a Grindhouse feature.

Speaking of which, you didn't mention the Grindhouse part. I thought Planet Terror was the better of the two regarding "looking" like a decrepit grindhouse movie, with the scratches and dropout and everything else. Death Proof looked way too "clean" and new to have been through a thousand screenings already.

Both films together are what I think the directors wanted, so I wish I could just say Grindhouse more then just one.

I did like Death Proof because it felt like gorilla film making, while keeping that QT signature magic.
Also, to me, it embodied what Grindhouse was meant to be.

I also think Thanksgiving was the best of all though, hehe.

Death Proof is probably better made (if less a grindhouse picture than Planet) but Rodriguez's effort is much more fun to watch, up until that irritating post-post apocalyptic ending fairly typical of these stories. Proof says a lot of things about the aging male gaze on female beauty that, young as I am, I must admit made me a bit uncomfortable. Tarantino doesn't shield the viewer from the whole possessing-beauty-by-destroying-it-theme the way Planet does.

DeathProof reminded me more of grindhouse pics i have seen like SwitchBlade Sisters and such (which they now air on friday nights on IFC btw).

i loved turning the tables on Russell's character... and the foot fetish thing. that was tarantino bringing his own freak into the story.

Yeah, I was curious as to how people without a foot fetish reacted to all the images of feet. Did they notice them as much? Did they care at all about seeing them? Or were the images just "part of the movie?"

Deathproof because I'm sick to death of CGI and Deathproof was a real and rare taste of the old "live stunts" that got your heart racing in a way CGI never will.

Loved Kurt Russell's character, the camera work and the stunt work in Deathproof. But it was just too violent for me (and the dialogue dragged on too long) and I walked out.

Planet Terror was just pure cheesy. Loved it. I'd never seen a Grindhouse but to me, that was 70s cheese. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Actually, they did. There's a documentary about the CGI usage in the special features section of the DVD. That's how Rose McGowan's leg was turned into a working machine gun. She wore a blue cast on her leg to simulate it as she acted her scenes.

And I did enjoy the car chases in Death Proof. I just wished there were more car chases and fewer scenes of the characters sitting around talking.
