Hey guys - just wanted to make you aware of the Silver Screenwriting Competition. There are ten thousand dollars worth of prizes and the deadline is July 1st, 2008. You can find out more here.

for some reason the mods always move these specific screenwriting announcements to the announcements board. being specific to screenwriting i think they should be allowed to remain here.

This sounds pretty good. I think I may give it a go. Not sure if I'm reading it right, but it looks like they accept Final Draft format for entries... anyone want to correct me on that?

Nikee, the reason those pesky interfering mods move contest announcements to the Announcements forum is so that more members might read them. When threads get moved, redirect links are always left behind in Screen Writing forum so that screenwriters don't lose visibility of the threads (one click still takes you to the thread). Moving threads to Announcements forum increases, not lowers, the number of reads. The thing to bear in mind is that not all screenwriters on the board visit or post in Screen Writing forum.

The fact that there's an opportunity to meet Blake Snyder is a good enough reason to enter for me! I LOVED his book. Thanks for sharing as I had no idea this one even existed.

And the reason this thread hasn't been moved is because (naughty) Julie posted a duplicate thread in Announcements already.

What about doing a stickie here for script competitions that would have the name, link, deadline, and pricing? It would be easy to update and such.

I posted in both places because I wanted screenwriters, specifically, to be aware of this competition. For example, in Announcements, The Silver Screenwriting competition has received 14 views. Here it has received 74. I just don't think the Announcements thread is as active.

There should be a specific area for screenwriting related announcements and competitions.

OK, we'll think about that. But board policy is to not post duplicate threads because it can get out of hand. And like Derek said, if an announcement does get moved from screenwriting to announcements, nothing changes. The "this thread has moved link" doesn't expire or go away except that it naturally falls off the page as new threads are posted and all the competition details are still just one click away.

Will get back to you about a sticky.

No one's saying don't post announcements here, post away, please.

But one thread posted here would have done the same job as two, because it would have been moved to Announcements forum, leaving a link here. That's like two different views of the same thread -- it's not being deleted from here, it's still visible, still an active link to your announcement.

If just for example's sake your deadline slips for any reason (as happens sometimes) or any other changes occur? Now you've got to edit both threads.

And of course, it's not which forum gets the most views that matters -- it's that you've got 88 views instead of 74 views.

For contest info I tend to check out the MovieBytes.com contests page, as many people do. There's no sense in relying upon second-hand info posted here that might not be as up-to-date as an established service.

Shrug, just my opinion.

I was just suggesting the sticky because quite a few contests get announced here and almost always the person who posts the contest complains about it getting moved.

That way we have one thread to contain the announcements and it's here for anyone who wants to look or post.

I don't even enter contests.

The competition looks great, Julie. Just one question, though. I found it a little weird that you are allowing scripts that have used your script consulting services in the past to enter the competition. Not that you are biased in any way, just threw up a red flag. Any thoughts?

the synder hook up is the least favorable and valuable of all the prizes imo lol! but i'm not sure about the farmer's daughter.

14 vs 74 - well, i must say i've never visited the announcements section without a forwarded link. the way i see it is that this board is made up of so many different kinds of writers... i don't want to sift through announcements for any writing other than scriptwriting. i already waste far too much time on these boards.

We do accept scripts from former and current clients for a couple of reasons: we have hundreds of clients and to disallow them to enter would rob them of this great opportunity. If a client gets notes from us and executes a great rewrite and a great script, they deserve the same shot as anybody else. The first few rounds of reading will not be done by Script Department readers. The finalists will be judged by Jim Mercurio and me and you can rest assured that we have no reason to award a prize to anything less than a spectacular script. In fact, I am adamant that the judging be tough. My reputation rides on how good the grand prize winner and other finalists are, so there's no room for bias, cutting slack or anything else.

LOL, to each their own, no? I really enjoyed his book, and frankly I like meeting writers. But, his tastes are not to everyone's liking, so I can understand your point. The farmer's daughter thing had me lifting my brow, too.
