Got a phone call from the literary editor of The Sunday Tribune, they're going to publish my short story, presumably this weekend as they always do their fiction first Sunday of the month.
In Ireland, that's very a respectable place to get your work published and leaves you open to being shortlisted for the New Irish Writing Awards, which I was the previous time I got published there.

Cool! I wish there were newspapers in America that would do this. Good luck on a possible award nomination!

Great news, Susan! Does the story go on a website so we can see it here on the other side of the pond?

Congratulations! I'm going green, and not in a good way.
Why don't more papers publish original fiction? I guess they need the room for the ads.

No worries - given my success rate and frequency, I suspect I will be dining out on this for quite a while.
I am shortlisted, btw, but the prize isn't awarded till April 2009.

Runner, I know what you mean. My Envy List sometimes gets out of control. There's this girl who has written "the best debut play in 30 years" at the age of 19 and all the (oddly enough, male) critics are nearly wetting their knickers, but there you go. Jealous, moi? Never :D
Mr Sci Fi, I am sure you will do it. Your monicker is dear to my heart because I actually have a story short listed in a sci-fi competition, which is a great boost for me because I have only ever written two stories in that genre. I tend to like soft sci-fi, more about issues, but I think that preference is related to my gender.

Susan, I think all good science fiction relates more to the human condition in all its varied forms and in the setting of exploratory thought than any incidental gadgetry. One of the sexiest men I have ever met thought so too - Robert Heinlein.
Many congrats on your acceptance - may you have many many more to celebrate!
