Hi,
It's great to have found this board. I consider myself a bit of a "tattered" newbie since I feel like I've stumbled across every jerk and scheme out there for naive writers. I'm the "very proud" owner of, not one, but, two published books by Publish America (keep your groans to yourselves, I already know). I am, however, as stubburn as the south end of north bound mule. I have no intention of giving up on my writing or bugging the crap outta them. Needless to say, I'm not so quick to take people at their word anymore (I swear I have stupid written all over my forehead. You would not believe the email for "representation" and the "interested" emails I've gotten for my art and writing by flakes). I decided I was tired of finding out "the hard way" and have hopefully graduated with full honors from my former alma mater of "hard knocks". I keep a blogspot at [email protected] and my artwork is posted at [email protected]/mdmkay. My background is in nursing but I had to retire in 1990 due to complications from childhood injuries. I've only been seriously writing for publication for about three years now. I occasionally write articles for women's issues and poetry, but my main interest is writing children's fiction. At this time I'm trying to place an easy reader for 2-5th grade called MISFIT FACTORY and have just finished a young adult fiction novel. I was very excited to find the Absolute Writer website and I hope to become a happy contributing member.

mdmkay--you got scammed by pros. It's what they do for a living, and they are--unfortunately--quite good at it.

Meanwhile, we're very glad you're here! Welcome aboard, and jump right in!

Welcome, mdmkay! :Sun:

If you haven't already, take a few days and read this site from top to bottom. Not everything may apply to you, but it's all good information to file away for later.

Mdmkay, you sound like you have enough self-preservation/drive left to take care of you and get where you want to go. Good for you! ..and welcome from another newbie.

MDMKay --

Not sure if we've meet before (over in PA hell..lol..), so I'll say nice to meet ya! Don't worry the people here don't hold publishers against you. Nice people with lots of resourceful information! Welcome to the cooler!

MDMKay, it's good to have you here with us. It's also good to know that, though you have two books in PA's clutches, you're not going to give up. :box: I myself have a book in their hands, and all I can say is, they may have my book, but they don't own my name or my imagination. It sounds to me like you have a similar attitude toward this whole situation. I hope you have the best of success in your writing career.

And again, it's good to have you with us.
:)

I'm pretty philosophical about PA. I figure that I got a couple of free books, my name on Amazon, and even if they are an author mill they are going to want books that will make money for them and i'm sure they get more manuscripts than even they can handle, so I consider it a lesson learned and I am quite pleased with my Amazon rankings (I'd really be pleased if I was getting paid). Btw I'm working on a little "something" and if it pans out all I'll be sure I'll let my fellow PA "authors" know. You know what they say........there's more than one way to skin a cat.:box:
