How did you embark on becoming a writer and how did you go about getting the ideas for your current script?
I got started last spring in a screenwriting class at my community college. I am a film major who plans on doing the technical aspect of work, so this was one of the required classes, but writing is very interesting to me. At anyrate, when the teacher told us to come up with ideas,
i came up with some off beat idea to write a script about mugen. Mugen is an online fighting engine that lets you play with characters from pretty much every 2D fighting game.
I was just so obsessed with mugen at the time and wowed by all the stuff that those little characters were pulling off and i wanted to capture all those characters and put them in a script. I decided eventually to come up with a real idea and not use copyrighted characters. So then an idea hit me one day. I remember telling the instructor that if i could put it all together, it would be huge.
So i eventually decided to make a varied version of my original idea. What turned out was a script that was pretty dumb. It wasn't cliche at all, but it was too fantasy and too many things that would probably turn people off. After the class finished, i pretty never got back to the script.
I have it on my hard drive still, but i'm probably never going to do anything with it. As life went on, I started experiencing lots of different things. I watched certain documentaries that really touched me. These movies were very influential and gave me some new ideas to work with. Now i'm basically rewriting my script, with pretty much the same premise, but new motivations for the main characters.
