3 months is the norm, i believe, unless the agency's web site dictates otherwise. If you want to follow up at the one month mark *simply to confirm they received your material*, then that's ok, too.

Thanks for asking this question- I am 10 weeks out on a full request and was wondering if I could e-mail just to ask if she recieved the MS. Yes?

yeah, sure, go for it!

fwiw, currently I have a full with an agent. I emailed at the one month mark to confirm receipt and was told my materials had been received. I emailed at the 4 month mark to status query. No response. I emailed a week shy of the 6 month mark, and was told my full is still under consideration.

On an earlier partial request with a different agent, I found out with my 3 month follow up that he had never received it. So it can pay off, but try not to bug 'em.

Agent Nathan Bransford recommends status querying once a month, politely, after three months if you haven't heard. Of course, if you query more than a couple times with no response you may have to consider it's a pass.

Thanks clara- I sincerly don't want to be a pain to her! I just sent off a polite e-mail asking if she recieved the manuscript- I got a read receipt but no reply yet.

After waiting 3 months, I finally status queried the agents who requested fulls or partials. I've heard nothing. I guess that's my answer.

A while ago, I noticed agents started responding to queries only if they were interested. Now, agents are only responding to requested material if they are interested? It's kind of discouraging, and I don't like this trend.

I don't like it either. I know they are very busy, but this is a buisness and silence seems unproffesional to me. If you request material the least you can do is reply one way or another.
