...brought about by the thread 'Do you Draw a Floorplan?' :

Aside from writing, I also do a lot of free-lance 3D work. Quite often, I find each can actually improve the other. To which end, I am offering, on a very limited basis, my services - to those who feel they can REALLY benefit from them.

Though I'm sure there are many out there who would simply 'love' to see a scene rendered three-dimensionally, this offer is for those 'stuck' at an important plot-point, because they are having a heard time visualizing a scene, location, or layout. If, under those circumstances, you think being able to see a basic three-dimensional layout, which can be rotated and manipulated, would help break the mental log-jam, then by all means, feel free to PM me, and I'll see what I can do to help.

3d drawings for a building in a book? isn't that kind of overkill? What do you use, Revit?

I just tend to sketch mine on trace with colored pencils or marker.

Glued to my computer screen.
That's great of you to offer! I'm good on my own, but I've spoken to a few people who could use that... sadly I haven't been in touch with them for a while. X.x;; Maybe they are actually lurking on the site and will find you.
Have fun!

That's a good question right now.
That's a wonderfully generous offer, Gosse. I tend to use Legos and army men when I get stuck. Oh, and plastic dinosaurs. They serve very well for mythical monsters.

There must be times when it would be useful. If one is describing some action in which characters could trip over one another if their movement isn't planned right, it can help a lot to see all the angles--the real angles.

Since I am hanging out in the ice age now, I would not need a house plan, but I did have a heck of a time getting things straight in a modern house once.

Interesting idea but not sure how it would help me with my current WIP. My writing wall is plastered with colored photos and drawings and maps etc. I think I've got everything I need but thanks for the offer.

I'm gonna echo Lori on this being an amazingly generous offer, C. Gosse.

And I'll keep it in mind, and if my current chapter refuses to co-operate despite banging-of-head and ad-hoc models, I may send you a sketch.

Either way, thanks! :)

Quite a generous offer. I suppose it'd be more helpful if you could guide the folks from where they can download freeware for dummies like me.

yes...I thought that was a generous offer too. I used to do 3d graphics for computer games...so I know it's not a quick undertaking to build a set in a rendering package.

Cool. Except - those vehicles are too close together in the example. Probably explains why they got ambushed, I suppose. Kidding.

Another tip is to use google earth for places to get more detail or to prompt on what an area looks like.
