Pretty soon, I'll be finished with the final stages of editing my script. I still have to come up with a good logline. When I'm finished I'm going to register it with the Guild or with the equivalent. I've been thinking of submitting it to Hollywood Lit Sales.com where Sony Escape Artists have the first look at it. If they pass it will be available on the site for everyone to see. Is this a bad idea? Should I use Inktip service to catalog the script into a paid advertisement for production companies? If I use the latter, it's more private and not as easily seen as being passed over if there was a rejection. Where is my time better spent? Out of curiosity, I've browsed Craig's List in LA where they want scripts. I've read books where in 1988 it was customary to sign nondisclosure agreements before you send a script, according to the author. Is this still customary? A lot of companies on Craig's List just wants you to send a script. Are they sharks? Can someone please fill me in before I get into something I can't get out of?

I've heard people say good things about InkTip. Success stories (script options, sales, assignments) appear in the newsletter all the time.

Everything else you listed is a total shot in the dark. I don't know anyone who's claimed success with a lucky hit.

Most aspiring screenwriters I know find a list of prodcos, identify which might be interested in their type of script, and query with a logline. See msg #3 in the screenwriting tips sticky thread.

there are so many ways to get your script out there. and it's really a total crap shoot as to whether you find the right buyer: the one who's looking for exactly what you have to offer.

inktip may have a few successes but it's more of a feel good about getting your stuff out there b/c you can actually see who looks at your stuff and how many times it gets hit. if you get a lot of hits then you feel good but hits don't guarantee any results either.

scriptpimp is another good marketing source where you have some control. they also list who will work with first time writers and how to query any particular production company or agent and they tell you what they're looking for.

the craigslist approach makes me think, small and independent features and shorts where you many not get any money for your script but you could get it produced.

Hey AE:

Permit me to toss some spam around in your thread.

See my signature and join us tonight on the conference call. Have your logline ready tonight before the call and be prepared for the logline to get analyzed (for free!) by a pro Hollywood creative executive.

But it's ONLY TONIGHT

(I'm done spamming now.)
