Hi everyone,

I posted a prayer request in the proper forum in Office Party, but this matter is a major thing in my life and in the life of a lady friend, as well as in one of her and my mutual friends.

This evening, I received a text message from a friend who said he wanted to sell his soul to the Devil. I ministered to him, and my lady friend did the same, but he took it wrong, and he turned to the Devil's side.

He must have left her some fifteen text messages since then, including one that looks like a possible death threat. I read six of them, as she had deleted the remainder. She refuses to call the police because she doesn't want him to get into trouble, and he also was drunk when he sent the texts.

But I had to intervene tonight, and tell the guy to leave her alone. This is the guy I got into a fight with in the hallway outside the lady's apartment last year. I do fear that he might try to have me arrested now, even though he begged before to drop the charges. But the fact is, I did my best and he has done his worst. He is talking about going to Hell and being at peace down there, and I am afraid for him.

Ironically, he says he accepted Christ a year or so ago. But when he read the Bible tonight, Psalms 38 and 51, I felt the urging of the Spirit to tell him about why God puts His hands on us in a negative way. I think honestly that he did not want to believe he had ever sinned, because sin is such a major part of the Scriptures mentioned.

In any case, I beg of you all to pray for this man, but also for my lady friend and myself. I fear for her safety as well as for mine. This is not the way I wanted to end this night, but the fact is, I'm scared. :(

So please pray for us all. He's claiming even to be the Anti-Christ, and I really think he's gone off the deep end this time.

I pray that the Lord will send a host of angels to stand guard over you and your friend, and that the misquided soul who sparks your fear will fall asleep and dream of what lies before him at the end of the two roads from which we must choose our way. At the end of the widest and most heavily traveled lies a wilderness of despair and anquish, but at the end of the narrower path, "joy cometh in the morning." We should not fear those who can take our lives. Our only fear should be of the one that can damage your soul. Grasp on to the peace that passeth all understanding, and wait for deliverance.

Truly, no weapon formed against us can prosper--We won't leave this world until the Lord is ready. On the other hand, no one wants to get boogered up in this life either. Be cautious, be prayerful. I'll pray for you as well. The police are on the job for a reason...don't hesitate to call them if you suspect something is up. Too many times people dismiss this kind of behaviour until it's too late.

May the Lord bless and protect you, Sean

You have my prayers, Sean. Besides being drunk, your friend sounds as though he could benefit from some counseling; thinking one is the anti-christ is generally not a sign of good mental health. I hope in the morning his thinking clears, and that he'll seriously consider getting the help he needs.

Up at the house.
It's impossible to sell your soul, Sean. I'd say the guy is mentally ill- maybe demon oppressed at the most. If he was truly saved, he is in Christ's keeping. Eternal salvation. Everlasting salvation. Sounds Rock solid to me.

I did call, and the police couldn't do anything about it. I didn't receive the threatening message myself, and since the lady who did receive it wouldn't call, their hands are tied.

But right now, I know that God is protecting me. I literally feel His presence in the room with me right now. He knows how much I hurt, and He is just with me right now. It's the best medicine, because I love Him so much, and just to know He's here with me, loving me, just gives me a sense of resilience and hope that I didn't have even a few minutes ago.

The gentleman I mentioned in my first post, begged my lady friend to change and be a Devil-worshiper with him. She refused. She has such a strong faith in Christ, and then he called her 'weak'. But the Bible says, that in our weakness, God is made strong. It also says that the wisdom of men is foolishness with God. He will make a way of deliverance for me, and for the woman the Enemy attacked spiritually tonight through that man. In fact, I feel like He's already made that way for her and me. I will be able to sleep tonight, and I can even venture to say that my sleep will be sweet.

But to see a friend turn away from the Savior ... especially when he claimed Jesus as his before that ... it's so heartbreaking. I see how many of you must have felt when I rejected the Lord in December of 2006. I'm just glad I came to Him for real, finally. I love the Lord so much now, because He has taken away the hate and the arrogance from my life. That joy is worth more to me than all the power and all the glory this world could ever offer.

I'll be fine, and God will still be the King of the Universe, as He always has been. Thank you all so much for your encouraging words and kind responses.

I will be praying for you, your female friend and this guy. As Pat said he needs counseling major time. I will pray that God will give him revelation that he has sinned and needs to come to Jesus Christ.

Sean,

Prayers sent. Be sure to guard your own heart! Have you talked to your pastor/priest/whomever about this?

Hi all,

I just woke up this morning, so if my words seem a little weird, that's why.

I was right: my sleep last night was sweet. I did have a weird dream, about the guy who converted to ... but the dream was more comical than serious.

The Lord has just given me a wonderful rest, and it would have been better had I not set my alarm last night. I know God will bless me in ways I cannot begin to understand. Being faithful to Him has shown me that He really does take care of His kids.

Insofar as the man's mental health, I'm realizing now that he WAS drunk, and also that people have been telling him for years he had mental problems. He attributes his problems to being treated badly all his life, and the truth is, I agree with that. Anger does not automatically come from not taking a medication, it comes from being frustrated over and over again by those claiming to love us. He complained that he felt his anger was not legitimate in others' eyes, and that he felt he was walking on eggshells much of the time because people were always expecting more out of him than he could handle.

But the issue remains, he does get drunk, and his words could have been the alcohol talking. Even so, it's the threats he made to my lady friend, and trying to "Match wits" with her over the whole Jesus thing ... he knew exactly who to try to debate with, who knew the Bible better and who did not. He was going to debate her because she is not as knowledgeable in Scripture as i am. He sent me one Text Message; he sent her more than fifteen.

I guess the point is, he saw so much knowledge in me that he didn't want to try to match wits with me. He rather would want to match wits with her. It's just like the Wicked One to try to tear down someone who doesn't know Scripture as well as they should.

Anyway, I'm just kind of still waking up. My eyelids are heavy, and I'm having trouble staying awake. This is a trial for me, not only with the gentleman but with my finances. I have too many bills this month, and not enough money. The Enemy knows if I match wits with him now, I'll be easier to take down, because I'm going through so much junk.

Sorry for the rambling post. Like I said, I just woke up and I'm still very tired. I'll try to get to the point that I can keep my eyes open, but in the mean time, I need to get off here.

Sean, I am not a Christian, well, I am, but I just don't attend Church. I attended Church if Christ when growing up. I certainly believe in God, and definitely believe in Heaven and Hell.
Anyway, I would definitely suggest calling the police if there any more threats made. Save all messages, phone and text, just in case.

I would also suggest not getting into any more fights with this guy.

Hope you and your friend stay safe.

Also hope this guy who's threatening the both of you gets better in his own mind. He's probably just being jerk, and is not really a threat. At any rate, I suppose while everyone is praying for you and your friend, they should also include prayers for this guy, he sounds like he could use all the help he can get.

I just got a call from the guy. He says he has repented and is going to get help. I had to stand my ground, though, and insist he not call me again. I feel bad about doing that, but it's not only for my lady friend's or my safety; it's also for his safety. One of my lady friend's other acquaintances is furious about this situation, and I frankly don't blame him at all.

So basically, I have cut the man out of my life, and he has agreed to do as I've told him to. He has also agreed to get counseling and good Christian help. I told him stuff like what he was talking about last night is way out of my experience, and that he should ask a Pastor for help or at least a trusted Christian friend who knows his Bible.

I am still praying for this man, that Christ will heal his heart and make him a better human being.

I don’t know anything about the guy or the situation except what’s been written here, so I can’t make any specific assumptions about him or his situation. I do understand the mind set that says “I’m going to sell my soul to the devil.” It may be the booze or medications or some form of mental illness. As a hotline crisis counselor I’ve also seen it result from overwhelming frustration, from depression; manifesting from a sense of giving up on God when God is perceived to not be meeting one’s expectations and demands. And the other conditions alluded to can give loud-voice to such perceptions.
I think there is great wisdom in avoiding situations which are perceived to be a threat. I think prayer and positive thoughts all called for. Situation like this can be a call for greater faith on our part, a faith that knows that things can change, that the appearance of things in others lives is not the whole of their being. There is little value, for self or for the individual in question, to be seen as “defective” … if we cannot perceive another as being healed, we somehow add to the perceived reality of them as being defective, broken or diseased. Our call then is perhaps not to see them as being in need or healing, or in the process of being healed, but to see them as though they have already been healed. (We can know/believe for them what they temporarily are unable to know/believe for themselves.) In my religious practice there is a common prayer, it goes something like this …
The Light of God surrounds him
The Love of God enfolds him
The power of God protects him
And the Presence of God watches over him …

I don't believe it's possible to sell your soul to the devil in the conventional sense. You know, "Give me this and you can have my soul." God would never permit such a transaction.
However, having experienced the affects of alcoholism in friends and family, I can say that at some point the individual allows an evil force to take control of their life and thought processes. Until they get sober, the evil one will always have a conduit into their lives. Clearly the further down the path one goes, the harder it is to turn around and come back. The path back also has many detours such a slips and backsliding. As I think about it, this reminds of Pilgrim's Progress. No wonder it's a classic.
Praying for all three of you.

Your friend sound like he is mentally ill

He could be going through a manic phase. He is dellusional not responsible for what he is doing. If you can, please keep an eye on him and try to get him to a hospital. This probably needs more than seeing a therapist. He could be a danger to himself and others. If you can help in in a real-world way, that would probably be good, in addition to prayers.

I haven't talked with this guy in quite some time now. I have heard, from the lady involved, that his mother, who was her close friend, now basically cannot stand her anymore. And she says that all the family members are starting to be extremely negative. :( It's like there's a spiritual thing going on.

Of course, this is all stuff I've heard second-hand. I've not experienced these other people involved; only the guy. So I don't know for absolute certain that these people are really being this way. But I do trust this woman with my very life, and have a hard time believing she would make something up about anyone.

Also, the guy didn't make any real effort to maintain our friendship. I think he did not hold that friendship in high esteem in the first place, or he would have fought a lot harder to remain friends with us. The fact he does not even seem to care, tells me he was likely never our friend in the first place.

Thank you all, for your prayers and words of support and encouragement. I am going through a lot at this moment, but I know that God will give me the strength I need to move forward in this and other hard situations.

sounds like he needs a psychiatrist and an admission to a mental health facility as much as anything else right now. Claiming to be the antichrist is not an such an unusual delusion in psychotic disorders. I hope it goes as well as you hope it can. You have my very best wishes, for what they are worth.

There's an old saying I got off a Sinbad movie: "Trust in Allah, but tie up your camel."

Pray for him, yes, absolutely, but call the cops the next time this twinkie gets stupid.

Drunk or not, Christian or not, he is threatening people. These days you have to take it seriously. Sometimes it's the only warning you get before someone goes off their nut and shoots up a school.

He is acting out, and in it's own twisted way this is his way of yelling for help.

Any more threats from him--regardless of any claims to be born again or the Anti-Christ--report him to the cops. They're the professionals who know how to deal with the secular side of things.

Take religion out of this situation and you have a violent drunk making threats. It's just one small step from threat to action and your lady friend is vulnerable.

Her safety and yours are more important than anything else. If he was serious about being Christian he wouldn't be trying to push your buttons or threatening people.

I've been in your situation, and letting him get away with bad behavior is the worst thing you can do.

He can't and won't listen to sense while he's drunk. Sometimes a person does have to hit bottom before they can see the light.

You keep praying, but STAY SAFE. Pass this on to the lady getting the threats.

ERs and morgues across the country are full of kind souls who didn't want to "make trouble for someone."

There is a time to turn the other cheek, and a time to put on a warrior's armor.

Gear up, and put on your game face. He may not be the only one getting tested by God.

I called the cops last time, but because I personally did not receive the texts he had sent, they couldn't do anything about it.

The dispatcher told me the only person who could report this, was the lady who received them, and she doesn't want to get him in trouble. :( She was abused for many years, so she thinks that any time an abusive man gets put in the slammer, it's her fault, not theirs. I wish there was a way I could get through to her.

Not much else I can do about this situation. My hands are tied.

It is a too common thing for an abused person to think it's "their fault." Some victims even feel that "maybe I deserve being treated badly."

She needs to get into some caring therapy to understand that she didn't do anything wrong. Bad stuff that happened to her was the result of a bad choice made by the abuser. She didn't ask for it.

I had to go through therapy after a long term abusive relationship. The bad person had me brainwashed into thinking I was the center of all misery for the whole world. It was a hard road, but I shook that idiocy off, and now I am nobody's victim!

I also get angry when I see someone being abused and I want to help them. That was the strength I got from what I went through.

See if there's some kind of recovery group in your church or with the United Way (they helped me) so she can see she's not alone. Make sure they don't go with the "somehow you brought this on yourself" therapy. (Sadly some do this and it's wrong.)

Of course victims don't deserve being abused!

Most victims, though surrounded by good friends and family, feel horribly alone. I was no different. I found it was easier to talk things out with a stranger than a close friend. I didn't want to admit I'd been such a fool. Once I understood none of it was my fault, I began to get stronger and see things more clearly.

Now I don't hesitate to defend myself or others from the bad 'uns out there.

I hope as her good friend you can help her to get into a good program. But step back and let her walk it alone when she needs to; she'll talk about things when she's ready.

The one thing in my favor was I knew I wasn't right or happy and I WANTED to get better.

Recall that God wanted us in the Garden of Eden, not the Trash Dump of Misery!

I was a victim in a similar relationship to what you mentioned, Gilloughly. My abusive situation was with a person I thought was my only friend in the whole wide world. He made it sound as though everyone I knew who told me he was not a good friend, was an idiot, and that he personally would never lie to me.

I got to the point where I came very close to committing felonies just so I could stay friends with the guy. He gave me ultimatums, and I felt I had no other friends to fall back on.

In fact, when the woman I spoke about in the OP came into my life, she was the one who made me realize just how bad an influence the so-called 'friend' was to me. The guy's been out of my life for little more than six months now, and I'm already seeing massive changes in my life. I don't hate like I used to. I finally accepted Christ for real, in January. I've started doing artwork and creating new stories again. I actually am looking into real publishing houses for my old book, which he did not believe would work with a legitimate house. I've even forgiven him, as well as several other abusive people in my life, for all the garbage they put me through.

My lady friend is trying to put these abusive relationships behind her. But like you said, it's so easy for an abused person to see every abuse as their own fault. That, I think, is how abusers keep their victims trapped in relationships with them. Whether it be high school buddies, or marriage partners, or whatever, the truth is, I've seen so many abusive relationships where the abused individual will DEFEND the abuser, because they 1) are afraid of that person's wrath, and 2) are even more afraid of losing them as a friend, for the reasons I gave above.

She has been going through therapy for a long time. But she has also been abused the majority of her life. I'm actually one of the very few people who do not abuse her, and I feel torn between moving some thirty miles away, and staying here for her sake, so she will continue to have my support. She and I adore each other, partially because we have both been abused and are working together to bring each other out of the cycle of abuse.

*Sigh*

I am beginning to think I should remain in this building, because of her. The truth be known, I love her. I don't want to see her spiral down again into another bad relationship. She means an awful lot to me, because she believed in me when no one else I personally knew, did.

I hope this situation has improved a bit. I missed the dates on the posts but I'm praying for you and your friend anyway. And just remember, should he change his mind, Satan's contracts rarely stand up in court. I know that may sound a bit flippant - but I believe as long as he's still alive he still has a chance to repent.
