Just wanted to thank everyone who puts their time and energy into this site. About six months ago, I was an unpublished writer (no books, anyway) putting together a non-fiction book proposal for the first time, with nothing but whatever I could find on the web for guidance. I came across this site, and studied Jenna's Guide to Non-fiction. That was in August. Now it's February and I've got a great agent (at Trident Media Group) and a book contract (with advance) with HarperCollins. It's been a wild ride so far. It's unusual to owe so much to people I've never met, but thank you, Jenna, and everyone else who uses this site to encourage and guide strangers. This stranger appreciates it very much.

Not sure which details you'd like to hear, Maggie, but the manuscript will be in by the end of the summer, though the contract calls for March, '09. After that, it's up to them when to publish, but I'd think late '09 or 2010. The focus of the book is on the origins of human sexuality in prehistory, so it generated a lot of interest, both from agents and editors. On the other hand, some agents and editors also got cold feet when they really understood how controversial the project might be. I didn't expect that. I thought they'd love the free publicity, but they're surprisingly timid -- a lot of them, anyway.

Congratulations! I, too, had a similar experience and feel that I have gained so much from this forum. It really is a gem.

How come nobody told me about this thread four days ago? :D

Way to go, Dude in Hammock! I'm thrilled to hear I was of some help. Your book sounds very interesting.

Wonderful! Thanks for the feedback. It's inspiring and very encouraging. :)

This site helped tremendously with a novel for which I did a significant rewrite, and now I've been asked to ghostwrite a memoir.

I'm checking out this forum for the first time, and I see there is something by Jenna that is a must-read. Many thanks to everyone and, again, congrats to you!
