Every writer's fantasy. You get your contract and your publisher asks you who you want to make the dedication of the book to. (Not even sure they do this, but hey, roll with me on this one, it's MY thread anyway.)

Mine will be dedicated to my ex-wife and my brother. The only two people who have faith and believe in me on this writing thing.

What about you?

Also, notice I said when you get published, not IF.

I do have faith in all you human beans.

I dedicated Alex to "Team Kress, or as I like to call them, Mom and Dad". They helped me so much with the book, aside from being my beta readers, they also went through all the copy edits with a fine toothed comb (and I mean each round of edits). And they are always there for me to call them and panic to them.

They rock.

Franny Girl is my golden retriever. She is a constant source of love and joy. I can't do a dedication without including her.

I would steal Marla Frazee's dedications. No question. She's my mother's illustrator, so the insides of my mother's books are graced with Marla's brilliant drawings AND gems like this:

"To my big brother, Mark Frazee, who thinks I'm an idiot."

"To my big brother, Mark Frazee, who probably thinks this dedication stuff is stupid."

Amazing. I wish I'd written those.

lol, I was self-published about a year ago, and it asked for a dedication.

I said it was for my cat and my Mom.

Needless to say the cat was happy. ^^

Is there a limit on how much space your introduction takes up? Because..

Ms. Garrett, my 5th grade teacher for opening my eyes to the beauty and craft of fiction writing
My family, especially my mom
My friends, especially Ashley, Alex, and Tania, who LOVE reading my stories
and Caleb for telling me I shouldn't give up on my dream when I dreaded my writing
I love you all so much

I hope I do get my chance to write a dedication about them. They are the best people in my life!

Is it bad to have a preference against your friends, or is it okay to make those three feel special?

I didnt dedicate mine to anyone, but I had a list of thank-you's at the end: friends who believed in & encouraged me over the many years I was a struggling unpublished writer (follows a list of names); my publisher for giving me a chance; my editor for being great to work with; my (now) ex who was very supportive.
