The Defunct Oscar for Best Title Writing

I never knew about this Oscar and only discovered it just today.

It lasted for only one year: 1928. It was retired when talkies came to be.

I mention it here because for about six years now I've been thinking maybe an Oscar for Best Opening Credits might be in order. Now I know that sounds odd --like it might be in the same neighborhood of silliness as proposing an Olympic event for yo-yo-ing. But ever since CGI began getting super sophisticated, opening credits have gotten downright impressive.

Any opinions?

The Lord of War opening credits. Probably some of the best I have seen, most certainly the most memorable that I can recall.

The ending in particular that cuts to black as the boy is shot- very powerful statement for just the opening credits.

Yeah...Lord of War is definitely a great choice for the opening credits thing.

I also really enjoyed the Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium's opening credits.

the oscars are already overloaded with awards we don't really care about

but the mtv movie awards may have a spot

they have some great categories that have more audience appeal ie - best screen kiss -- and they don't ignore the comedies and action-packed dumb-ass flicks either

This reminds me of a piece I did once that really could have won an award for best closing credits - or at least for the ratio of time the closing credits lasted compared to the length of the short film. I swear, the closing credits were almost as long as the piece itself. Fun stuff.

I'd like to see BEST VOICE OVER and WORST VOICE OVER awards added. Isn't (V.O.) the natural descendant of title card writing?

According to Wiki, there was also an Oscar for Best Director of a Comedy Picture

Personally, the best closing credits was from A Series of Unfortunated Events
