Where do I live--in my head of course
I just received my first rejection letter. I wasn't suprised by it as I could feel things wrong with the story but just couldn't figure out aside from my own known weakness what it was. But my thing is that the letter was pretty nice and encouraging. So my question (not that it will stop me from writing) is are rejection letters, form letters that are sent to everyone no matter how good or bad your story may be?

Unless they mention something specific about your story, they are form letters, almost all of them. If you know your story has weaknesses, you should correct those before sending it out.

They do tend to be somewhat positive but a form letter unless substanttive content form the book is mentioned or there is a handwritten note.
