I have written a series of stories starring a barbarian (A NaNoWriMo novel, two short stories). I liked writing them but I realize they are unpublishable so I am thinking of releasing them (after some heavy editing) under a CCL license for all to, uh, enjoy.

What does everyone else think?

What's the point? If you want to release them for free, there are a multitude of websites where you could do so. Many large fan-fiction sites have "original works" sections, for example.

Or, edit them until they become publishable.

Or, there's always online publishing services.

Why a CCL? Does it offer some advantage I am unaware of?

That's an interesting article. I think it applies more to someone who is attempting to get their work published though.

Also, food for thought, I wonder how this strategy would work when someone invents a decent ebook ipod that is more than just a novelty?

I think what the OP meant is that it wasn't publishable in a traditional market. By licensing it under the Creative Commons, the work could then be self-published somewhere online (blog, etc) or via POD.

I release my serial with a Creative Commons licence (the kind where you can share it, but not to anything else), it's on the internet anyway, so what's the point in hoarding all the rights?
