Answer to Linden Bay Question

Donna,
I received my first contract from Linden Bay Romance in April of 2006. I think what a pleasure they are to work for speaks for itself when I tell you that two years later, in April of 2008, my 11th contracted work with them will be releasing. (comprised of 8 full-length novels and 3 short stories)

I do not hesitate at all to recommend you send them your manuscript.
If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me.

Linden Bay

Another Linden Bay Author here.

I have been with Linden Bay for over a year now and they are great! The editing staff are incredible and always willing to help. The publishers are great gals who are always there to lend a hand. I couldn't have asked for a better publisher to start my career with. I now have five books with them and six more in the works.

You won't go wrong joining their group. They've got some pretty phenomenal authors in their portfolio.

It's been almost exactly two years since I sent the sample chapters and outline of my first book, Ransom, to Barb Perfetti at Linden Bay. The total is now 3 novels, 1 trilogy, and two short stories in anthologies, and LBR is the first place I send any new romance; not only would I recommend them to friends, I've already done so. The editing is professional, the print edition comes out very quickly after the e-book, and the quality of the trade-paperbacks is higher overall than a lot of what is available in bookstores from the big-name publishers.

Nuts and bolts: royalties have always been on time. The contract includes an audit clause (which I have never felt the need to activate) and is renewable. They contract for reasonable rights, not the grab-everything contract style that's become popular with corporate publishers. I feel like I'm dealing with human beings who are treating me as a human being.

LBR has gone above and beyond in getting print books to me for time-sensitive events, and is quick to straighten out any questions about Amazon listings. Listening to some of the horror stories from other publishers (many now defunct) I realize I was pretty lucky to be published by this company. If I could only find men who look exactly like my heroes to pose for the covers, it would be 100% yes--as it is my satisfaction rate is about 95%. (I don't know anybody who has found picture-perfect models, either... but a girl can dream.)

I'm another Linden Bay author (Lori saw your question and linked to it, so I thought I'd come over.) They published my first book on the 1st of January, and so far I've been very impressed. The contract was easy to understand and very fair. The editors I worked with clearly really knew their stuff and were very professional, and Lori and Barbara - the publishers themselves - have been approachable, friendly and very efficient. Altogether, I highly recommend them. And yes, you'd be in good company too :)

Wonderful.

I have seen the website of Linden Bay and a lot of names who are published by them throughout the internet writing business.

I guess I'd better get over there and consider them. I didn't know they also published traditionally.

Thanks ladies.

Cheers, Josie :)

But what are their sales like? Do they get books in stores? Do they help with promotion?

For specifics why not contact Lori James directly?

lori DOT james AT lindenbayromance DOT com

I can only speak for my two short contemporaries at LBR but the sales have been comparable to the ebook versions of my Cerridwen historicals.

They're a fine company to work with, professional in all aspects and I don't have any problem recommending them.

Stacia,

Linden Bay Romance is a small independent press. General submissions are now closed and have been for some time. We are accepting submissions from agents, current Linden Bay authors, as a result of convention editor appointments, or based on a referral from a current Linden Bay author or staff member.

Our managing editor and two members of our editor staff will be on hand at RT.

Sales figures vary significantly. Linden Bay openned in June of 2005. We have a backlist book that didn't earn out the $25.00 minimum last quarter. We also had 2 books that became #1 Best Sellers in Gay Fiction on Amazon.

Regarding marketing support - we did an interview with Mandy Roth several months back that answered quite a few marketing related questions. I believe that most of the content remains relevant. Two items which have changed is that we do now have an active on-going MySpace initiative. We're also in the process of revamping our website. The new website is going to be unveiled on Monday.

Stop by and check us out!

I'm a new LBR author, my first book will be coming out this May, and I have found Linden Bay to be beyond professional. They definitely know their stuff and you won't find better people to work with.

Thank you to all who have contributed. From what I am reading, LBR seems to be a positive connection for my manuscript. I will fill you in when I hear back from this publisher.
Thanks again
