(Now adult) children with shady pasts...

Oh, my. A few people spring to mind. One has a daughter whose claims include multiple conceptions post tubal ligation (yeah, I know it's not always successful, but...) She has seven kids, more than half of whom have physical or mental disabilities. Her parents have never met any of the fathers of their grandkids (aw, you just missed him). And she's blamed some of the kids' problems on druggie dads. Although men can abuse themselves and subsequently contribute to disabilities, women of course have waaaaaaaay more chance to damage a baby pre-birth.

They think she's lucky when she says she won a fancy television (she's on state assistance). I think there's a stolen TV in the gal's house.
