If you have experience writing resumes, try posting resume writing services on Craigslist (it's free to post your services). AWAIonline.com offers a great resume writing program including the resume generating software. (I'm not affiliated with them, but I have purchased this program and have been very pleased with it.)

Hope this helps!

Do you have any experience? I would suggest some of the certifications. Then start small offering your own services or sign on with a resume company--be careful of the resume mills.

Any ideas?

The hardest part about writing a résumé is starting to write the résumé! First you need to think about what you want to do, what image you wish to project, and how your past experiences relate to your current aspirations.

Once you have addressed these crucial issues, putting your thoughts on paper is much easier.:)

Are you an expert? Why not go to your local school board and offer to give a summer continuing ed class, or a lunch time brown bag seminar for graduating seniors in High School. In other words, set yourself up as an Expert. You would need to be an expert, of course. The high school in my town has summer workshops for anyone who wishes to pay about 30 dollars a smack. Quite inexpensive. Local people teach crafts, computer stuff, things like journaling or "scrap booking." A Build Your Resume class would probably be well attended. This is not a silly notion either. Each one of your attendees, as well as anyone they know is a potential customer. Anyway, it is an idea that would only take a few hours per week, and seems like it would be good for business.

The first thing I would ask as a customer is the contact information for a few of your past clients. Did they get good jobs? Was your service all it was advertised to be?

MisterEThoughts,

Out of curiosity - how do you market your business? "Mass e-mails?" Has that avenue been successful for you?

When I worked in insurance we had what we called "bird dog" relationships... I'd make friends with car dealers, and if they got a customer come in who didn't have insurance, he'd have that guy call me. In the same manner, if I had a customer who was looking for a new car, I'd point him to my car-dealer friend.

Resume writing as an income stream can be accomplished the same way by befriending headhunters in your area. Many corporate-level headhunters (Robert Half, etc.) will offer their own resume services for a fee, but smaller boutique employment agencies probably won't. You can work out a similar deal -- if they get a client who needs a resume, they give that client your card. If you meet someone who needs a job, you point them to your headhunter.

Every successful business is really a series of successful relationships.
