I have gone into my CP, clicked Avatar, and all I get are the generic selections. I feel so cold and uncreative, although I guess Mickey is somewhat appropriate because I do live next door to Disney World. Am I doomed to the mediocrity of a general avatar forever, or am I just missing something?

It will. You just need fifty posts. (And remember posts in 'Office Party' don't count towards your total postcount.)

But Wait! There's another, faster, better way!

You can become an Absolute Write Water Cooler Benefactor member. For a donation, via PayPal or a check or even cash, you can have a custom avatar right NOW, and more PMs and other nifty stuff, like a fancy title.

Or, if you really can't donate, you can always buy books from the Amazon Absolute Write Bookstore.

In all seriousness, the forum costs more to run than the rest of AW, and the ads from Google and elsewhere no longer pay very well, and don't really cover the costs.

You are right.

I clicked the link to donate, but we are experiencing rain here and my satellite internet is not running smoothly. I decided not to risk losing my connection in the middle of a transaction so have written a check. (Yep, I could have waited til the sun came and donated later, but I know that I would forget.)

It's in the envelope on the table. I will mail it when I go to town today. By next week, I might be a "real member".

I know how much it costs to maintain a forum like this - expecially one so BIG.

Thank you for all the time and effort.

Can I make one suggestion? How about a link to the bookstore at the top of the forum pages?
