I have an idea for an article. The idea is that when women have a project or goal that is a bit overwhelming, we like to have a woman friend who is undertaking the same type of project to give co-support, encouragement, feedback, and reality check. Also that this helps us to meet our challenges. This would be stuff like: training for a marathon, losing 50 lbs, getting a Ph.d, or even having a baby! The word I'm using for this is "companera" (with a squiggle over the n) which means female friend/companion/comrade.

I'm looking for women who have used this kind of support system, where you and a friend undertake the same kind of goal at the same time. Anyone out there do this? Thanks.

Sort of, but it's not a "project" in the way you mean. I have a phone buddy who has a child with autism, same as me. Our children are close in age, and we swap ideas on all kinds of things, share tips on what's worked with our kids and with the schools, and sometimes, we just vent.

It's a very valuable relationship for me, and for her, too, I suppose.

I see what you mean. I will think about these kinds of things and their relationship to my original thought. Thanks.

I swap stuff with women writer friends all the time: goals, beta reading, grips and moans, ideas.

Any of the support groups-- Mothers & More, Weight Watchers, Al-Anon, MOMS-- work that way. ("My name is Jenan, and I'm a Mommy-Meeting-oholic.")

A couple of cities ago, I ended up getting to be good friends with another Mommy Meeting veteran whose husband was also interviewing for jobs out of state. We would commiserate over resumes sent, phone interviews, and all of that dreary stuff. My family ended up moving about six weeks before hers did, and I felt a little disloyal at moving away and leaving her stuck amidst piles of moving boxes. Not enough not to move, of course.

FLYLADY!

This is a support system for women who are not natural homemakers or house proud. The system teaches you how to take controlof your home and life and they have a whole system where the women encourage and support each other.

Exactly what you are discribing here.
