Hello all.

I suppose this is where I introduce myself and say a few words about the person who will come to be known as brokenfingers. I hate this part. I would love to tell you all kinds of stories about me and my exploits but, unfortunately, my lawyers have advised me against it. ;)

So hmmmmm… now what can I possibly tell you? Well, I can definitely tell you that I’ve never been committed to a mental institution, though I suppose that’s more a matter of luck than anything. Let’s see….what else? Never been convicted of a felony. Not a member of the Communist Party. Never seen a UFO nor been abducted by an alien. Never ran for political office nor been caught on camera with someone who has. Never been on Jerry Springer, Maury or Oprah….

As far as writing goes? I’m just a guy - a lover of life and adventure - who happened to be struck one day with a sudden desire to tell a story and so decided to learn all he can about the writing craft. And so here I am, a year later, in Jenna’s cyber-realm - eager to learn and share experiences with others who feel the same way.

Looking forward to it.

Write On, Fellow Travelers!

No, I don’t – but if I did I’d write a book: The Underground Travelogue: A Tour Guide to Ten Places You Definitely Don’t Want To Go!

Welcome. And ouch, your screen name sounds painful.

LOL! Well it's not quite as painful as it sounds.

Actually, when I first began to suffer from my writing malady, I would find all kinds of excuses to do everything but actually sit down and write. I would read about writing, check out writer’s sites and publishing sites, read novels and short stories, check out writing forums, do research for the book I wanted to write – basically everything except actually get my butt in the chair and write.

Finally, one night I was reading some how-to book and asked myself why didn’t I just get up and write something. (Incidentally, talking to myself is a side efect of my writing disease.)

Well, that started a big argument where I would make up some kind of excuse and then proceed to shoot it down:

“I have to finish this book on writing first.”
“B, that’s the 27th book on writing you’ve read.”

“But, I’ve got to do more research - I’ve got to study Intelligence Agency organizational charts.”
“B, you’re writing a fantasy.”

“Well then, I’ve got to study the secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood for when my hero infiltrates their cult.”
“sigh..... B, that doesn’t occur until the middle of the story.”

“Uh, I’ve got to see what’s going on at the AbsoluteWrite Forum first.”
“B, you just checked it 3 minutes ago.”

“Look, I can’t. My writing just isn’t good enough yet.”
“Arrrggghhhh!! You haven’t even written a single word yet!!”

“Dammit, quit bugging me! I can’t write right now!”
“Why? Why? Why? Why? Are your damn fingers broken?!”

Hence my name.

For that, and the fabulous inner monologue that followed... :welcome:

:Wha: Don't tell me that you think making excuses for not writing is a bad thing! I thought it was a requirement in order to call yourself a writer. :Smack: Damn, now I have to change my whole philosophy on writing! That's no fun!

Welcome to the group, Brokenfingers. :hi:
