My mouse kept bouncing between American Gods and Fragile Things.

I still can't get the shorty story 'Other People' out of my head.

*gasp* Going to vote. Can I vote for all of them?

Has he listened to one of his favorites, Ellison, talking about giving it away for free? I'm guessing his publishers haven't.

Maybe they're actually starting to pay attention to what Baen has been doing for years.

I really wonder about American Gods. I think I picked Fragile Things, but I was wavering between Fragile Things and Anansi Boys. I think both would be great for first time Gaiman readers, which is the whole point. On his blog, Neil says:

What I want you to do is think -- not about which of the books below is your favourite, but if you were giving one away to a friend who had never read anything of mine, what would it be? Where would you want them to start?

While I personally love American Gods, I don't think it's a good starting point for Gaiman. I've heard so many people say that they tried to read it and couldn't. They never picked up another Gaiman.

Personally with that book I've been reading it on and off for about a month. I cannot place it exactly, but I seem to lose interest to get through some chapters and put it down for a week before I come back to it.

Really? It was my first Gaiman book and I read it straight through in one sitting- with bathroom breaks of course. But then, I also found The Children of Hurin riveting.

I usually go for the short fictions when I'm introducing new authors to others.

Also, on-line reading works better with shorter works. Less eye-strain. I voted for Fragile Things.

I've only read Marvel 1602, which is a graphic novel, sooooo... I quite like the sound of American Gods. Not too keen on Stardust, m'self.
