Hi all,
I'm thrilled to have found this community, and I hope I can give back as much as I get out of it.
I've been writing professionally for 20 years and full-time for more or less the past eight. My pay-the-rent category is entertainment writing; my background is in theatre and television. I'm currently a film critic for Hollywood Entertainment and Reel.com. Despite working on the Web since 1993, I still don't have my own site, but you can see a collection of my reviews at www.rottentomatoes.com/author-7998.
I recently finished my first full-length manuscript, a memoir about taking a trip halfway around the world with my (then-) 95-year-old father. I've hired a freelance book editor to go over it before I submit it; I have someone interested in reading it, so I'm both excited and terrified.
I can provide help/information in the following areas: professional theatre, interviewing, television production, music television and the music industry. I know a fair amount about the life of both producers and artists.
My current goal (between ms revisions) is to begin querying bigger magazines - US national - so I don't have to return to the evil world of television production
. I'm daunted, because entertainment, lifestyle and women's magazines seem to be the hardest to crack, but I know I have the necessary experience. I'm just not very good at selling myself; it's my least favorite part of being a writer.
I'm also pushing myself to enter more contests, which is how I landed on this site!
Cheers,
Sarah
