Hey everybody.
I have finished my 1st novel. Currently working through the 1st re-write/edit.

I need someone willing to read the 1st chapter, around 32 pages, just to give me some feedback.

I would prefer someone in the Baby-boomer generation, age-wise, as the novel takes place from 1969 to the present, with most of the story taking place from 69 (Woodstock) to 1975........

The novel is contains a lot of pop culture references, and of course, lots of what there was in the 60's.....namely, sex, drugs, and rock and roll.

It's not a requirement that my reader be a 'baby-boomer' however, that is the age group that would get the most out of this novel. If you are younger, and a fan of the 60's and 70's, you might enjoy it.

Also, I have corresponded with several persons on AW (whom I won't name) who call themselves professional mss docs or editors etc etc........and I'll tell you up front that I am not going to pay for your services to punch up my mss.
All I'm looking for is a friendly, but critical, reader. All I can offer in return is a good story for you to read, and the willingness to read yours if you have a need for a beta reader too.

Thanks!

You might get more of a response on the Beta readers forum a few forums down...

Is there a reason you want a beta on your first chapter rather than posting it in the appropriate SYW forum?

My first suggestion would be that you edit and perhaps re-edit before asking anyone to read your work. A first draft is usually not really ready for Beta's.

Secondly, I'm guessing that you're younger than Baby Boomer age. My first caveat, as someone who lived through it all, would be that the sex, drugs and rock-roll have been greatly over emphasized. The whole world was not wandering around high on LSD or pot, in spite of what some would have you believe. In reality, the flower children, Moonies and hippies were generally laughed at, or worse.

Having said that, if you want me to take a look PM me. I'll try not to be harsh, but remember critiques are a form of tough love.

My next-door neighbor (a good friend) fell into the hippie/free love/drug trap, and ended up in the Florida State Penitentiary. I'd be willing to read this ms - but only if it doesn't glorify the hippie movement, and only if it truthfuly discusses its failures. I'm not asking for a vindictive tract, but the truth would be nice.

Funny, I lived through that age as well. Sex, drugs, and rock and roll is pretty much how I remember it. <g>

I'm not from the 60's era, as I didn't exist until the 80's era. But I'd like to take a look at it if you're still looking for betas.
