I'm sure this has been discussed but I don't seem to be able to find it with a search so here goes...

If I have a second novel, how long is it reasonable to wait to query an agent who I've previously queried on a different novel who didn't respond? Or for that matter if they rejected or looked at a partial (the furthest I've gotten so far LOL)?

I am generally working on multiple projects--short stories and novels--at the same time. I'm not quite sure what is considered the etiquette for this.

Thanks.

I don't have direct experience with this, so take my advice with a grain of salt. I'd wait a month or so before querying an agent with a different project. If you read the stats on how many queries an agent gets during a week, I'd think that it would be highly unlikely they would remember a name of a writer, unless it was a highly unusual name. And would they even care? It seems to me, they're pretty much interested in the bottom line: the story. If it grabs them, then it grabs them.

That makes sense. I was reading that Lucienne Diver thread and she mentions 200 a month for each of the two agents at the agency. How likely is it really that they'd remember?

FYI My agent has a really good memory for pitches and names...She remembers EVERYTHING...
When I started out - I had more than one project being queried at a time for a bit- I re queried agents several months later- not because I felt it was necessary to wait but because my project wasn't quite ready yet. I really don't think it matters whether it's a month or two weeks.
I did have requests for fulls when I re queried-
For me it was more an organizational matter to remember who I queried with what.
As it happened I never queried Dorian except with LOTTERY...

I'm pretty good at keeping track of who I've queried with what. I really haven't queried a lot of agents because I felt my last novel was too short to be a good prospect for agents. (65,000 words is too short for most major houses when it comes to fantasy) But I did query a few one day when I thought -- Oh, why not. :D

Orion, thanks as always for the great advice.
