Hey everyone, so I have two spec television comedy scripts (Always Sunny In Philadelphia) that are near completion and am somewhat close to finished with my first feature (80 pages). Since I am near completion on the spec tv scripts I am giving thought to agent querying in the near future. Just wondering if anyone thinks this show is spec-able in the current market, I figure it's a legit spec because the show is still running.

first of all - why wouldn't you ask if something is "spec-able" before you write it as oppose to after? if the answer is no then you've nearly (except for writing practice) wasted your time.

2nd - writing for tv and features are two different ball games. you can't sell tv scripts so they're not "spec-able" - they are considered writing examples which are used to get you a job writing for a tv show.

3rd - it's always sunny is a good tv show for writing samples. you probably know or at least should know that you would not be able to get a job working for that show and that one of the actors is also the creator and writer for most of the episodes and it will probably stay that way.

4th - nearly finishing your first feature... well, i'm sure most will say you are so far from being ready to find an agent -- yeah, something you don't want to hear. write 4 more full features and then think about finding an agent. an agent wants to represent someone with potential long term success. you could find one with one great script but most agents want someone who (after signing a 2 year contract) will have other scripts in the wings ready for market. you have to understand their position. they don't make money unless they sell your scripts and you must have scripts in order for them to even consider you.

Yeah, I wasn't looking to find work with ASIP considering the consolidation of power on that show. I was fairly certain that it was a good show to spec but was just wondering two scripts were enough of a writing sample and if anyone else might be specing the same show. You've answered the question so it looks as though I must write on. Thanks for the response.
