I was wondering if anyone has submitted to New Moon magazine. They seem to prefer e-mail submssions. Is it necessary to send along a "cover" letter? Secondly, my story is a little over 1,300 words, though they request stories under 1,200. Will this be a problem?
Thanks!

I was just about to query them. :)

I'd stick with the guidelines; they say they will always go with a child over an adult to fill the pages so don't get yourself marked off the list first thing by not following directions.

As for a cover letter, you will need to adapt it to email standards, no need for addresses, etc. but the premise is the same. Keep it short, keep it snappy and make them want to find out more.

Good luck!

Can't give advice, but I totally LOVED New Moon when I was a kid. Good luck!

Oh, and one more thing: should I query first? Their guidelines are rather vague...

I've submitted there before. Wynter is right. They do prefer child writers. I'm sure you could break in though with the perfect piece. Good luck!

I have submitted to them before, never made a sale though. As far as I recall they prefer certain things written by children and other things written by adults.
I did submit to them via e-mail and included and short cover letter along with my submission.

I haven't checked their guidelines lately. But I would of course follow them.

I have found that they accept fiction from adults (Perhaps I will mention that I'm only 19...) Thanks everyone!

I've had two stories published in New Moon. I'm 15.

I never sent just queries for my stories. I sent them in the initial emails.

Checking my records....
Sometimes it only took me two days to hear from them, sometimes a matter of weeks...other times I never heard (it's possible my e-mails or theirs never went through).
I guess it varies. I hope you'll hear soon :) With a good response of course ;)

You guys are unbelievably helpful!! In fact, I have ANOTHER question: can I submit two stories for two different issues simultaneously? Didn’t have anything about this under their guidelines…(Maybe you should stop being so accommodating, so I'll stop asking questions :O) )

Hello! I don't know the exact answer, but I don't think it would be a problem. I often submit to places with a couple of different articles. Maybe put a day between them lol. But no, I don't see that it's a problem unless they said something about it.

The things that I've submitted there -- hmm . . . I think the response time was from a day to a week but, gosh - that's been forver ago.

Good luck!

I don't know. I was hoping about two weeks. Wishful thinking, maybe. Best of luck to you, too!
