Of course I need more animals like a hole in the head, but I was in the market for a miniature donkey gelding to keep my young jack, Blackjack, company. See Blackjack is growing into sexual maturity and is no longer free to roam with all the gals, but donkeys pine if left alone. Of course when I went to the breeders to get Quincy, he made me a deal if I took his best buddy Brodie (also a gelding.)

So here they are:

Short ASSet's Quincy

and Short ASSet's Brodie

Both are built like little tanks and are sweet as pie. Quincy is three this summer which means I can start breaking him to drive. Brodie is three now.

Have you ever seen anything cuter?

AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!

Now, what does "breaking them to drive" mean? His tiny little hooves will never reach the pedals...

:D Donkey carts. These little guys are not bred down from standard donkeys. Mediterranean Donkeys are a small draft breed. They are born to pull.

I've always wanted a donkey.

No fair.

Would you mind, giving me a ballpark figure of what a donkey costs?

Registered geldings around here can go for as little as $250-500. But if you don't care about papers, I've seen them for less. They eat very little grain, but do need hay and farrier care the same as a horse.

The minis are very sweet!

That sounds like a good deal to me.

We have plenty of room, but not proper fencing.

I'd love to have a pair of donkeys and a cow or two. I'd take an old one (cow) and just look at it.

How 'bout housebreaking? Is donkey-hair hard to get off of a couch? These are lap critters, I can see that!

I like the idea of house cow too. What was that movie with Billy Crystal and the Marlboro man? At the end he has a pet cow...

How big are they? I know they're minis, but is that three feet tall? Because a one-foot tall donkey would be REALLY funny.

But seriously, they are beyond cute.

The donkey farm I went to today had about 140 of these little beauties. They follow you around like dogs. They have many pictures of the donkeys taken inside the house.

Actually, I've seen people list female jennets for $100 when they were past breeding age, but with a lot of good years left.

I hope donkey hair is easier to get off the couch than goat hair. Pygamy goats make a perfect house pet. :D

The max height is 36 inches at the shoulder. These guys are 31 and 32 inches.

You could also "rescue" a donkey from the Bureau of Land Management program. I believe donkey adoption starts at $25. But you do have to convince the officials that you have a suitable home for them, and then there's the task of gentling a wild critter ... I'd say they'd get their learner's permit in about six months longer than the other donkeys.

Thanks all. Yes, these guys are addictive and you can't have just one. I was told when I bought my first one that they were like potato chips and thats the truth.

Very cute! Now I'm picturing Anne's parrots riding on the donkey's back shouting "Yeehaw!"

Some people down the road had a donkey, and the next thing I knew, they had two ponies instead.

I thought that was rude, upgrading like that.

Have you ever seen anything cuter?

I'm gonna completely sidestep that one and tell you that those are the cutest donkeys I've ever seen! Congrats on the new babies!
