Readin this at a little past 4 PST. Said a prayer for you. To paraphrase CS Lewis (badly). "Since God exists outside of time, time doesn't matter when it comes to prayer." Leads to all sorts of interesting suppositions, doesn't it?

Good Luck.

Hi guys! Thanks for the prayers, Windy. Oh and drumroll please . . . . . . . . They loved me! I have a final interview on the tenth where I will meet with the youth for their q&a.

I've been researching Virginia (where the church is) and I've heard they have a high crime rate. I really love the church - I mean the people are awesome - but, that worries me. Do any of you know anything about Virginia and their crime rates there? I am a mommy and want to know my babies are safe. =)

God bless you guys!

First, congratulations! Second, what part of Virginia? I'm pretty sure Richmond has a high crime rate, but it also depends on which part of town you live in. Much of Virginia is rural.

ETA: I grew up in Maryland and loved it. Man I miss the trees.

Thanks guys! =) Yes III, the church is in Richmond. I suppose though that we could live near there perhaps in a neighboring town. I wonder what towns are good?

Thanks for the congrats guys!

Hugs,

Brookie

Brookie, many wonderful congratulations! I'm so excited for you.

I lived in VA for a year, but in a town so boring that our greatest crime was Billy Bob running over Aunt Martha's flowers with his pickup when he got drunk on Saturday night. (This was on the front page of the first newspaper I saw there.)

Sorry, that wasn't helpful. But YAY YOU! Keep us posted!

Yeah, there are lots of rural suburbs near Richmond. My friend lives in Mechanicsville and I visited him about 3 years ago. It's a lovely small town. Of course you'll have to buy season passes to King's Dominion.

Brookie,

Congratulations on your progress toward the youth pastor position. I live in a suburb of Richmond (Bon Air, in Chesterfield County); I've been here for more than 30 years. My daughter was the youth minister at a church in Chesterfield County for several years. I was involved with youth ministry for almost 20 years as a catechist and adult advisor.

Yes, the crime rate is high in the city of Richmond, but most of it is due to drugs. Being on I-95 between New York City and Florida (and only 100 miles from Washington DC) puts it in an 'ideal' place for drug trafficking. On the other hand, there is a lot of spirituality around Richmond. There are a lot of churches (all denominations), and they are well-attended.

This area is great for raising kids. It's less than two hours to Washington, to the beach, or to the mountains, and an hour to Williamsburg and Jamestown. The history in this region is fascinating (from early settlers through the Civil War). In addition to King's Dominion (1/2 hour north) you also have Busch Gardens near Williamsburg (both have water parks associated with them).

The suburbs in Chesterfield County, Henrico County, Hanover County (where Mechanicsville is), Goochland County, Powhatan County (to name the closest ones) are all good safe places to live. Within a 30-to-40 minute commute to the city, you can find excellent subdivisions, small-city living, and rural (read: multi-acre working farms) places to live.

I'll be praying for you and your interview. Feel free to email or PM me if you have any questions or would like any other information.

And no, I don't have any affiliation with the Chamber of Commerce :) I just like living here.

-Don

Brookie Congrat! Will pray for your interview on the 10th.

Just as a side maybe you could actually look into the crime rate pray to see if God gives you any ideas as to how to reach the youth in that community. Just an idea. It depends on the actual age you will work with and also a big thing is where you will live.

Thanks Dobiwon. I appreciate all that wonderful information! Very helpful indeed! It's comforting to hear that you are very familiar with the area and that you and your family are in the same line of work. As a mommy, I want to know that the little ones will be safe and sound. There sounds like a lot of great things to do there! Wow. Lots of cool stuff to do! Right now, we live in the boonies here in the deep south. lol =) So, the city will be a big change. Mechanicsville sounds awesome (rural right?). I grew up on a cattle farm and my step dad has a ranch. So, "Cow Crossing" signs will put my heart at ease! =) Thanks for the invite to PM or email. I will definitly think up some questions for you. =)

Potatoe, Potatoe, Potatoe. Thank you for your prayers. You're right about the outreach. Mommy Hen just kicked in when I heard the crime was so high. I was thinking "Uh-oh!" But, since the only "drugs" I take are TUMS than I suppose we are safe. lol =) Oh, by the way. My email went wacky. I did see your PDF email but couldn't reply. Of course, I would love the PDF! =)

Thanks!

Congratulations.
I grew up in Southern Ohio and migrated to Oregon. About seven years ago I offered to take a transfer when the company I worked for opened a plant in Martinsburg, WV...a little over an hour from DC and on the Virginia line. Never worked out. Thomas Jefferson said he'd traveled the world and never seen anything as beautiful as the Blue Ridge Mtns. Seriously, the whole area is beautiful and just crawling with history. You'll love it.

Thanks Windy. It sounds simply gorgeous. I've seen photos but, never been in person. I'm a real home body I suppose - but then again, there is no better time to take an adventure than to take it on the Lord's terms! =) Thanks for all of your encourgement guys. I simply love you all!

Hi Kev. All went superbly. Oh and super big thanks for the PDF file. I am going to give it a read tonight. I skimmed the first version and it is filled with some great ideas. I will be posting late tonight and letting you all know what the follow up call says when the charimen calls about last night's interview. The youth told me that they "loved me". I really let my true self shine through and as the board listened in, I believe they got to see a new side of me - which was awesome. Regardless of the outcome I knew that if I showed them every side of myself that they would discover if I would be a perfect fit for them. You all have been wonderful! Guiding me and supporting me. Thank you all so much.

And above all, Kev and everyone, your prayers are felt in a big way. I've got a new found peace surrounding everything in my life right now. No doubt - because of the prayers of wonderful friends like you all. I hope that each and every one of you know that I always remember my AW friends in my prayers as well. You've all helped me through so much and I just adore you all! =)

CHURCH VISIT

Hi guys,
Just a quick update on the church and me. We've been invited up for a weekend in early March to come and visit with the church. We are all so excited. The interview with the youth went perfect. We just "clicked!" Everything has been working out in great detail - and I have to say that God has really impressed me with it! He never ceases to amaze me . . . please continue to pray for me and my family as we start this new journey and follow Him.

I've had so many Private Messages about this - and guys, that means so much to me. It is so heart touching to know that you are all thinking of us and praying for us in this time of change. You all, each of you, ROCK! =)

Love and hugs to you all,

Brookie
