Dont no if i am putting this in the correct place? I am writting a book for children ages of the characters are from 11 _17.
I do not pretend to be a fantastic writter, i have always wished to write a book, since i was very young,,but now ideas have been buzzzing round my head since before christmas,so ive been putting them down.Anyhow if i was able to get an agent, an be able to sell my book, i would not want to use my name not for any devious reasons, nor would i be hiding anything. We have 3 sons an i would not want other kids to tease them if they thought the book was crap, kid's can be very cruel, would you mind telling me how i would go about that?
many thanks to you all

Yes, plenty of authors write under a pseudonym.

Some do it because they write adult books (use a different name for each genre). But others do it for personal reasons. Or 'cause they really don't like their names and want to be cooler). ;)

Legally, you are who you are. So the pen name only matters when you get ready for publication. In the letters to the agent, you would use your own name. When you get ready for that, there are lots of references out there to show you how to format it. For example, on the title page you use your real name and address in the top left corner, then the title half way down the page, and under that "by your pen name."

But the best solution would be to write something good, so your kids will be proud of you! My boys can't wait until I'm famous, so they can spend all the money....

I write kids' books under a pen name. It's no big deal at all. Just write the book as your alter ego. Make sure teh copyright is under your real name, though.

You can use any name you want - but when you're submitting, it would be

Title

by

Real Name

writing as

Pen Name

Your editor/publisher/agent needs your real name, and you can't legally sign a contract under anything but your legal name - but the book itself could be published under just about any name you like.

Oh, and BTW, :welcome:!

Well, you could avoid the pen name and the kids jeering at your children by either pulling them out of school or writing the next Harry Potter.

If either of those are unfesable, then yea, a pen name is good. I'd use a pen name, but I want to wave all the books I publish at my old lit teachers and go, "Ha! Told you I'd do it!"
