Hello,

I wondered if somebody could be so kind to explain this bit to me, please? I've looked through the threads but haven't found the answer to this one. I live in France. I want to submit a ms. (English-language, narurally) to an American agency. But this agency has in fact their own subagent in France. They even list his name (but not contact information) on their site.

Am I obliged to submit my ms. through their French subagent, then? Or can I send it straight to the US agency? Would they reject it and/or tell me to resubmit it through their French subagent?

Thank you very much,

Fresie

My agent is with WMA and for my UK edition I work with a WMA agent in the UK- Not my WMA agent in NYC they aren't technically sub agents as they are part of WMA-
I would submit directly to the agency/agent that you want to handle your work.
It is not unusual to have a US agent for foreign based authors. There is no obligation on your part to submit to a sub agent - I have sub agents all over the world. My primary agent is in NYC

Depends on where you want to be publishing.
I presume you are looking for publication in the US as your manuscript is in English so you should query the US agency as per their guidelines.
If you are seeking publication in France then their subagent would be a good man to try - I expect he would want the manuscript in French.

ORION, waylander, thank you very much. I got really upset because I'd already sent off a query to the US agency and then discovered they actually had a subagent in France.... I thought I shot myself in the foot. :)

Now I feel much better, thanks again.

Happy writing!
