If you loved the TV spot, you'll certainly love the entire movie.

Apparently, it's vital that you notice what happens in the last shot. :)

It's like Blair Witch Project meets Godzilla. That's what they say. Don't blame me if that spoils the movie for you. :)

Dying to see this movie. I'm sure I will...as soon as it's out on DVD.

~Kristie, who never goes to the movies anymore.

Cheering you all on!
Rats. Can't see it, then. Blair Witch made me ralph.

No, not because of the eternal f-bombs. Because of the hand-held camera.

Stupid motion sickness.
Haven't seen it, but the reviews I've heard say it is very likely to cause motion-sickness

It could stir motion sickness... there is one scene that even had me looking away because the camera was giggling so much.

The last scene is very important.

The flick is like a theme park ride... seriously. Go have some fun but don't expect high art.

If that's a serious concern with anyone, definitely the hand-held shakiness is very intense. And I don't mean the pseudo-handheld popular on tv series where it roves but tries to stay still ... CLOVERFIELD has serious two-year-old swinging a camcorder on a rope shots, and that's handheld for 83 minutes. It doesn't "settle down" once it's established itself (which, honestly, I would've chosen)

Some movies you need to see big screen, this one could be better on DVD (it is, after all, supposed to be a guy shooting it to be watched on tv)

going to have to wait for it to come out on video, then... I can't "do" motion games like that. Can't play them on my computer and sure as heck can't survive an entire movie like that. No idea why producers figure that making the audience sick is a *good* thing.

:(

I liked it and thought it was really intense. Or maybe I'm just easily pleased. :tongue I think H. P. Lovecraft would have loved the critter. (Actually, considering how much he hated New York, he might have adored the thing... ;))

FWIW the audience was awfully quiet at the end. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. :D

I just saw it and it was amazing. First good movie I've seen in a good while. Also one of the first movies in a while that wasn't spoiled by the Trailers.
The camera isn't as bad as the Blair Witch Project at all. It was actually bearable.

Lolz, that actually happen to me too.
I think that's just a mental thing. Most people think that the movie isn't over till the credits roll. There was like, five seconds between the actual movie and the credits.

I actually thought it was it funny. If I ever made a major movie, I would leave like, five minutes of black before the creds. See how long before people realize the movies over. lolz

I was quite pleased with it, Clover had an awesome design (or is it Clovie? Have people picked a nickname for him yet?). I was afraid it was going to be monster-light (considering the budget was only 25 million), but I stopped worrying about that pretty quickly.

There were a couple of moments where I was like "No, no, no, don't do that." and "Why?" and (this isn't a spoiler, it's a disaster movie) "Why aren't you carrying bottled water?"

They need to make a movie like this, except following geeks around - yanno, people who would know how to deal with a monster invasion.

Monster preparedness kits are little different from earthquake or flood kits. Except they contain diagrams for rigging nuclear devices, sonic disruptors, shrink rays.

This movie is better to be seen in the movie theater.

As all movies are.

***Except for the fact that you have to sit with inconsiderate humans who think they're in their living room watching it at home

So maybe cancel what I said partly. Thank you again.

SPOILER:

Yeah, there were a couple of places where it lost credibility for me. I can see why Rob wants to go back, but for the others to follow while everyone is trying to get out? Especially the other girl who barely even knows Rob. That's a bit incredulous. And the military... fully deployed in just a couple of hours while 8 million people are trying to evacuate? They couldn't even do that in New Orleans for a few weeks...

But I also know what kind of movie it is so I'm not going to analyze it too much. ;) It's something that's good to experience (unless you really have motion sickness problem -- I felt sick a few times and had to close my eyes) once but I don't think I'd want to see it again, though. I did like it. I think it is a better film to be viewed at home on DVD, though. The shaky-cam is too much toward the end.

They had to follow him -- they only had one camera, so they couldn't split up. ;)

But yeah, I'm not sure why they all stayed together for so long.

Unless they had prior warning that something was about to go wrong. ;) But actually I think they were there because it was a monster movie, and there have to be soldiers futitely shooting the creatures, dying in terrible ways, and yelling at the civilians.

*waaah* This sounds like the cheese-scary-yikes! movie I like. But I will take y'all seriously. If you folks who don't normally puke in a moving car/train/plane/boat got greenish, then I MUST stay away.

Rats, rats, triple rats. Thanks for the warning.

Can someone PM me a spoiler site that has what the monster looks like? Any Lovecraft homage is all right in my book. Thanks.

I know it's all the "monster movie" conventions and that's why I said I could deal with that, knowing what kind of movie it is. Still, logically it just doesn't jell with me.

Still, it's a very good monster movie, and an interesting take on the genre.

We still don't know where Clovie came from - it is possible that he escaped from some sort of government base/facility - that would explain the apparently immediate mobilisation of troops.

I brought up the point with my fiancé and he just looked at me and said: "Post-9/11 Manhattan" - which does also offer an explanation.

*** MAJOR SPOILER ALERT:

I just think it's incredulous to evacuate 8 million people in less than than 12 hours, and then bomb the whole city with civilians still on the island. But you know what? We just can't bring our brains to this type of adrenaline-based entertainment. It does what it does, and it's very good (but seriously, the shaky cam is too much).

Also, the final video clip. That means the thing was there for about a month. You'd have thought that if it came from the military base, they would have tracked it down already? My theory is that it's from outer space (what with the alien like critters) and invaded the Earth. For all we know, a similar creature/weapon has been deployed at every major cities (a la Independence Day).

I don't mind them not explaining exactly what the thing is, where it came from, etc. or what happened after. It's just like Blair Witch Project. It's a mystery. Still, there are certain things that I just can't go thinking too much... It's not going to win any screenplay or best picture Oscar, but it's very intense and entertaining, I have to say.

Well, movies with intricate plots, I do like to see them more at home. And I agree that I've let my movie-going experience be ruined by idiots who behave like yappy puppies in a public theater.

Where is the cult of stealthy Kali thuggee-stranglers when we need them? Not in any theater where I've wished them.

It's like the loud rude barnchildren don't even understand that a movie might want to establish a mood, or that the writers might actually have a better line of dialogue than whatever MTV-inspired drivel spews out of their own mouths.

But as to the above blasphemy ... I meant it as a comment to the peeps who were worried the epileptic CLOVERFIELD camerawork might be bad for them.

Why vomit in public when you can vomit in the luxury of your own home, where there's a handy pause button on the remote? And far better to have a caring lover hold your hair, rather than a thuggee strangler. ;)

*mini spoiler, maybe...*

maybe I'm just being stupid, but it's an ISLAND. Get thee hence to a surplus store and grab a raft and take yer chances on the water.

I just don't understand the "well, we're stuck here" mentality. It ain't "Escape From New York" where there's no way out. It's an ISLAND.

eh. We'll wait until it's on video and then mock it horribly in the best MST3K impression.

:D
