I'm editing this medical text with my colleagues. We have to find an abbreviation for Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Is it Ob-Gyn or Ob/Gyn or OBGYN.
And how do you pronounce it?

It's one I've never come across and my colleagues tell me they can't find it on the internet.

The only time I've heard it said aloud, it was pronounced as individual initials, as in O-B-G-Y-N, but hopefully someone with a medical background could give you a definitive answer. For what it's worth, Wikipedia has OB/GYN.

In the states it's pronounced OB-GYN (names of the letters) - there has to be a bit of a pause between the two. I can't recall seeing it officially written out, but I think the hyphen would be better than the slash because the two are together not necessarily an optional situation. Puma

Apparently there's some leeway because I'm on the obgyn.net site and their doctors use Ob/Gyn while the ACOG site has it as ob-gyn (no CAPS).

You're right--the ACOG only capitalizes OB-GYN in titles. My mistake!

So it looks like "ob-gyn" and "Ob/Gyn" are both accepted as correct by obstetricians and gynecologists in the US.
