Do people still use microdots to store hidden information, or is this an outdated method and relic of a bygone era? If I used one in my story (set in modern times) would it look terribly dated? And if microdots are no longer used, what would be the modern equivalent now?

Thanks

I certainly haven't come across them (in fact or fiction) for a number of years.
I rather think they've fallen out of use since encrypted phone lines and secure web links have become more common and affordable.

The only microdots I know of are those you spray onto valuable items. These microdots have a unique code (like a barcode) that can be identified to specific persons/companies if the items get stolen and recovered.
