:( wah! I didn't get to see it!

It was a scene from an excellent German film "Der Untergang" ("Downfall"), about the last days of Hitler in the bunker. The subtitles were replaced to make it look like Hitler was ranting to his generals about Warner Brothers and New Line Cinema siding with Blu-Ray instead of HD-DVD. It was indeed hilarious, but I can understand that the movie studio was annoyed.

They shouldn't be. It got me interested in the film. I just watched Downfall. It was indeed a good film. If I were the studio I would leave it up -- free publicity and promotion, man!

I'm not a lawyer so I don't know if copyright works the same way, but a trademark holder has the obligation to block any unauthorized use of their trademark or lose the right to block anyone's use of it. I have no doubt the folks at Constantin got a big kick out of the video personally, but had to shut it down out of legal obligation to protect their intellectual property. Too bad, though.

Or work out a deal with YouTube and the poster to keep that on there. That's what I would have done if I were Constantin.

Yeah, I would think publicity for their film would be a good thing. I guess they felt it constitutes a derivative work, but like Ray says, why not work out a deal? Hopefully they are and they just blocked it while negotiating.

Wishful thinking maybe, as they may feel it's just not worth the time and effort.

Come to think of it, I'm not betting on an intersection of "Germans" and "sense of humor"! :D
