Hi, all,

I am writing a story with elements of ancient Greece in it, and there's plenty to be found on mythology and politics and building architecture, but I want details, and I'm not sure where to find them.

Specifically, what sort of chair would a person of state sit in? What sort of ornamentation was there in a government building and the meeting room of an aristocrat? Are there any particular customs one uses when entering someone else's house? How would a subservient address their superior?

If anyone has ideas on answers, sources, or how to look for sources, I would appreciate it greatly.

Get Egypt, Greece, and Rome, second Ed. by Charles Freeman. It goes through each civilization one by one and addresses all your questions. And for extra research read some of the greek plays, especially the Introductions to the books. Historians will often give valuable info about life in Greece.

What time period exactly are you writing about? I'll be able to give better sources if I know when...
