Hey guys,

Clarion 2007 was awesome, so you know you want to go to Clarion 2008! (I hope some AWers do; I'm looking forward to meeting the students, in my capacity as Volunteer Flunky #17).

But here's the thing. The application requires two short stories (2500-6000 words each, I think, but check me on that), and they should be polished, and submitted by March 1st.

Given my experience and that of friends last year, I strongly advise everyone who wants to apply to try and have stories polished and ready to go by Feb. 1st -- because there will always be things you want to fix at the last moment, or one last round of crits... etc.

Also wanted to say, if anyone has a Clarion submission stories, you can poke me for a crit. Health allowing, I will prioritize it.

Yeah, that is the problem with it.
There are scholarships that cover up to the entire cost of the workshop itself, but... you'd have to take the time off work.

electricgrandmother

I've been assuming this is two stories, both 2,500 to 6,000 words each?

Thanks for the advice :). I certainly need it.

People who can't take 6 weeks off do know about Viable Paradise, right?

ETA: If not, you should, it's much more feasible for people with jobs.

Presuming one is actually selected to attend, can anyone give me an idea of the actual cost of this thing? I couldn't find it on their website.

And Clarion is much more than that. Mostly room and board, actually, but it comes to over $3500. However there are scholarships that pay up to complete everything. Anyone of color here, do please note the Octavia Butler Memorial scholarship.
