Poem "genre"

So I'm still pretty new to the world of poetry, or at least, to the technical side of it. I decided its time for me to get out there and start querying around some of my poems. The thing is, I don't have a clue what kind of poem my poem is...the listings in my publishing guide has requirements like, "will publish avante gard, (sp?) free-verse, no epic or contemperary." Someone even said something like, "will publish free-verse but no prose"

Gah. How on earth am I supossed to know what that means, or how to classify my poems? I always thought free-verse was non-ryhming, but now I'm not so sure. Could someone give me some kind of rough list of the terms, and what they mean?

I'd *love* to hear that explanation. I'm betting it will boil down to "we know it when we see it".
