Thanks Carol. I can deal with "complimentary" errors, and have submitted a story.

If anyone else, like me, felt faint at the thought of inserting the required three spaces at the beginning of each paragraph, my solution was to remove all indentation and then Replace ^p with ^pxxx where the xxx are spacebar spaces. Have I confused everyone? Computer illiterates offering their solutions are often funny. :)

I've been tied up and/or tied down with my job since the beginning of the year, and for the most part, I've been out of the writing loop.

Does anyone have any feedback/insight to offer on these people? It just occurred to me that I fired off a sub to them back in January, and I never heard a peep back. Not a yea. Not a nay.

Googling them didn't get me anywhere, so I'm wondering if this venture ever got off the ground. If so, maybe I'll give them another shot.

Thanks!

Elle,

I never did submit to them, so unfortunately I can't comment. Maybe Jenny will come along and answer. :)

I did submit and received an email in February saying they were still making decisions. I guess they decided against my story since a quick google (I googled "love stories magazine") shows blogs with happy authors reporting sales to this magazine. Good luck with your story! :)

Things that make you go hmmm....

I just got an email from them this morning saying they've read my story and it's under consideration!

FYI - They were overloaded by the amount of subs they received and had to hire more editors. Responses should be quicker going forward.

This has a bit more information:

http://grassrootsmag.com/wrgu.html

Now, not only are they spelling "complimentary" wrong, they're spelling "preceding" wrong.

(and they aren't typos; both words are spelled incorrectly on multiple pages)

They call "romance" stories love stories. As someone mentioned they "proceed" rather than "precede." There's a lot of hoopla about "verification that your story is original" which implies that they could refuse to pay on grounds that it isn't your original work as per their determination. Another mag on bewares and background promised writers $300 per story and several AW members submitted, were accepted, and apparently printed. In one case, it took something like 7 months and the writer was still waiting for payment while their requests for promised compensation were met with irate e-mails from the mag's editor. I'd like to make $300, but I want to be sure the money is coming should my work be accepted.

A couple of days after I posted saying I guess my story was rejected since I hadn't heard from them, I got an email saying "You're story was rejected." ::sigh::

Hi:

I did the same thing as Jenny and wrote them saying I'd like to use it somewhere else and presumed mine to them was rejected.

Today I got a "nice" rejection letter even though they liked my writing. They asked for more. They also said things had improved now as they had hired more editors. If you look on their guidelines in red it says they want more sex in their stories as that draws more readers.

Mine was a sweet story.

So I shall send them another.

Good luck everyone :D

Josie
