Okay folks, here it is. I'm posting early because I want to give everyone a little time to work on thier entry.
The contest is a "Love Sonnet" contest, inspired by the amount of interest shown in the "what is a sonnet" thread. For the sake of this contest, I'm adding a few rules...easy rules, to ensure a level playing field.

1. The sonnet must be 14 lines only. No more, no less.
2. It does not have to rhyme.
3. The subject must be about love.
4. It would be nice if everyone who enters also casts votes.
5. Contest is open to all.
6. One poem per contestant.
7. PM your entry to me

That's it.
Deadline: February 1st. At that point, I will post the poems, anonymously, for everyone to vote on. The winners will be announced on Valentine's Day. I've dug deep for this one. I have three prizes (I'm accepting others, too). The winner gets first choice, second gets next, and so on.

Prize Closet:

The Norton Anthology of Modern and Contemporary Poetry
100 Best Love Poems of All Time
The Poetry Home Repair Manual
The Poetry Speaks boxed calendar <---NEW PRIZE
All of these prizes shipped to you from Amazon.com

Vibrating Moonlight by our own JST5150 (thanks, Jason)
Stephen Fry's The Ode Less Traveled (thanks, Rob)
writer??? has contribute a winner's banner, similar to the snazzy banner in my sig line. The winner of the contest gets to announce his or her skill to the AW world...and why not? Thanks to writer??? for the additional incentive. Get writing.

Great Idea! Worthy of a Poet Lauereate, I'd say. Count me In. At least I can still post in the Writing Poetry Forum.

Two questions. How many entries per person? Do we PM the entries to you, Limey Dawg?

Great!

I think I'll see if I can come up with anything worthy enough for this! Even if I don't get to enter, I wish everyone else the best of luck!

I don't know how to write a sonnet.

oh boy. this one's gonna hurt.

Yes you do. This one doesn't even have to rhyme. Google "sonnets" for inspiration then get to work. I'm expecting great things from you.

Thanks, Rob. I, of course, won't be entering the contest, but I'll write one for the occasion.

Kansas! Again.
I've written something for the contest. Will LimeyDawg, by chance, offer critique to losing entries? I'd like to have something to look forward to. :)

Also, my piece doesn't follow the traditional meter of any of the sonnet forms - mostly because I can't write anything into meter without it sounding awkward, strained, and the exact opposite of poetry. Will this seriously impede my chances?

That said, I think this contest is an outstanding idea, and I truely appreciate LimeyDawg for sponsoring it. (And for JST co-sponsoring it.)

I'll crit any that want it after the contest. As for the chances of winning? That depends on the voters. I'm sure we'll see our share of variant sonnets.

In my head.
This may be a stupid question, but I've been known for them before so WTH, right?

When you say "must be about love", do you mean Love as an enitity/subject/thing in and of itself, as in "Love is..., or love for someone or something, as in "Shall I compare thee..."? Or either? I just don't want to break the rules, waste my time, or have you compromise your intent.
Thanks
