Members make choice "for themselves."

LOS ANGELES - Golden Globe-nominated actors are expected to snub the awards in support of striking Hollywood writers, the actors union said Friday.

After canvassing nominees over the past several weeks, Screen Actors Guild President Alan Rosenberg said in a statement, "there appears to be unanimous agreement that these actors will not cross" the picket lines to present or accept an award.

It was unclear how the move might affect the awards set for broadcast on NBC on Jan. 13.

this doesn't surprise me. the ramifications of crossing the lines could hurt the career of an actor as well. they know they're not clever enough to come up with funny anecdotes and jokes during the awards lol!

look how many of them have crossed into the late night talk shows? only crappy actors that have moved to the stage and such.

the only thing i feel bad about is if i was a new actor who was just nominated for an award for the first time. i would be crushed. and i feel for them but only a little bit - hey, their movie is done and they got paid!

it reminds me of the 1980 boycott of the olympics. now that one really hurt the lifelong dreams of young athletes.

If the actors don't show up, what's the point of watching or broadcasting the event in the first place? They might as well cancel it, and announce the winners in a news release.

Golden Globes Canceled Because of Writers Strike (Update1)

By Michael White

Jan. 8 (Bloomberg) -- Striking Hollywood writers forced the cancellation of the annual Golden Globe Awards telecast after gaining support from movie and television actors who refused to appear on the show.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which stages the awards honoring the year's best film and TV performances, announced the decision yesterday in an e-mailed statement. The program was set to air Jan. 13 on General Electric Co.'s NBC.

There was a snippy segment on breakfast TV this morning about "what an inconvenience this is," but I think at the very least it helps to demonstrate the involvement writers have. It took a couple of minutes to explain to my folks that someone has to actually write award ceremonies. Maybe now people will get a sense of just how impactful a lack of writers can be.

Did anyone see Joaquin Phoenix's acceptance "speech" for the People's Choice Awards? He held up a series of cue cards, saying how he was 'speechless' without the writers, but he thanked everyone who gave him the award.

It was classy and really nice to see such a high profile guy stand up for the writers he knows he can't live without.

And this, my people, is why I love him and we must be together.

Wack, it is our destiny. Resistance is futile.

Yup, fully agree. I honestly keep thinking, "Poor Ellen Page," who's pretty much the coolest breeze of an ingenue to hit Hollywood in a LONG time... and she's not gonna get her moment...

Well, at least not yet. Kid's got game & brains - she'll get there later.

Still, when you've got a little-film-that-could like Juno that has a chance to shine bigger than the big guns, it's a shame to know it won't get more than a press blurb.
