View Full Version : Contacting Peter Weir

I know this isn't really pertinent to screenwriting, even though he's written several very excellent films. (Of course, that's why I'd like to write him.) I was just wondering if you guys have any direct connections to him or know of a website for himself or his agent. This week I've been doing a report on him for my Directing class and have fallen in love with his work. I just want to see how he does it.
Sorry if this is off-topic, but thanks if you've got any info/ideas!

Find out who reps him and contact him through his agent.
Unless you happen to know someone personally who knows him....

Is that from the WGA site? Joe, you're so kind, doing research for others. ;)

Sorry, Joe. Right after I posted, I thought to look at DGA too. Right now, I'm typing up a letter to fire off via snail mail, even though I'm pondering giving them a call. Depends on if my cell battery's still got juice...

I have access to the prefered industry database. Anyone need any info on anyone, I can usualy find it quick.

Joe... if that is "membership" only database info, maybe you shouldn't post it in a public board? Just a thought... maybe use PM? Unless that info is publically available.
No big deal in this case, I guess. It's not like you're posting his home address and phone numbers. But still...

Hey, should I snail mail or would it be safe to call? Also...do you think they'd let me just write Weir outright just to say "Hey. Love work. What's secret? Peace out."? I'm sure they'd love to defer me to his fan club. Although I'll be in LA for a semester a year from now, so if he's got offices in the area and wouldn't mind giving me an internship (which I'll need), then I'm sure I could find a way to work that into the dialogue. What joo guys think?

It's a private site but it is public info so let em sue me.
To answer the last question. I would email and explain your situation. They would forward it to him or answer back with a no. A call won't get you him.

I'd do that, except I've got no email addy.

Its a representative's address for him to be contacted via. I don't consider an invasion of privacy. People sell those lists for fans.
The only reason they're "private" is because not everyone is nice, sane and just wants to say "hey, I like/hate your stuff. Keep it up/drop dead". They want something MORE.
A nice letter can't hurt and some life-long correspondence has started from less.

Thanks, y'all.
Snarz, your sig's funny b/c I'm watching Witness right now. Unless PA means Production Assistant in your case...

PA is Publish America. After I got snookered, I went to other boards (including this one) and was afraid of reprisal, so I created Andrea. As soon as I get my rights back, I'm going to "come out" with my real name.
The sig is an in-joke regarding two of PA's big honchos as they have atrocious grammar.

3rds - forget the email. if you're inquiry to him is personal then send him a letter....inside a card. ie - Xmas cards would be forwarded without interference.
make it personal; gloat & kiss his ****; and hint about an internship. if he likes what you have to say about him and how much working with him is your dream then he could possible create one for you. internships are all over the place; especially if you don't get paid ;)

Nikee--Are you saying forget about emailing Ptak or Weir? I already emailed Ptak earlier today.

Side note: I'm thinking of sending a letter to Stephen King. Do you think it's a good idea. I know someone who's a friend of King and he gave me King's address. Would I freak him out by sending him a personal letter to his address -- stating that so-and-so gave me his address? Or should I go through his agent like everyone else?

Definitley write him Maestro.Tell King who gave you his address--that establishes your bona fides. He's a good guy. He's actively participated in the communty both in New Hampshire when he lived there, and now in Maine. He's a good teacher too.
And he's got a great book on writing. I've used his work to teach overtly-hostile-towards - students and it really really works.
