Why do I keep getting PM'z from posters with zero posts telling me they just joined the forums and wanted to say 'hi'?

Same here. In fact, it almost gives a cause for alarm. :poke:

Since I do not post that much I could not figure out what they might see that gives them the impression I have any clout or anything. I mean, I can only hand out so much free popcorn.

I've never got anything like that either. What is it, do I have a neon sign on my forehead that says "Ben Knows Your IP Address, Don't Muck WIth Ben?"

Gone around that next bend.

It was, as is most often the case with these PMs, a spammer and I banned him. His particular modus operandi is to draft and send rather innocuous PMs that include the link to his...SURPRISE!!...online business!!

Most of these folks know they'll be banned quickly if they post on the open boards. It requires much less work to draft a single message and multiply-send via PMs than to actually contribute to an ongoing conversation.

I hope other folks will come forward if they're similarly contacted.

Yeah, I'm feeling left out too. Consider this my open invitation to send me weird (or otherwise) PM's also.

P.S. Feel free to send pics etc.

I know this happened last year and the PMs were sexual in nature. Of course, I didn't get one, so I had to send myself a sexual PM but it wasn't the same. :(

I need my very own sock puppet, one who will PM and give me lots of reps.

I got that one last year, it looked like an unfortunate Photoshop accident. No man could possibly ... okay, I'll lay off with the explicit description. When dutifully asked by an Upstanding Member of this community (Maestrowork) to forward it to him, I did so. Maybe he still has a copy he can send you...

Yes, folks, if it's got some link in it, it's not just a Weird PM, it's SPAM! Report, report, report... send it to all Mods so they can enjoy it too, and turn the perp's IP address into a smoldering crater.
