A little less than that, most likely. I'm finishing up some edits and copying everything down, but it should be ready for reading within a week, so I thought I'd look for people now. I'm writing a fantasy novel, and completing the second draft. I have a couple of betas, students at my school, but as they're my age and don't know what agents and publishers are looking for, I would really like someone from here to also take a look.
Synopsis: A fifteen-year-old girl is carted off to her older sister's boarding school at the beginning of the summer to discover that it's a training ground for a small, magical army against the Elementals, beings that once protected this world, but now seek to destroy it. Meanwhile, the Elementals themselves are planning an attack that will wipe out their opposition.
What I'm looking for: Since I'm going to try to publish this, criticism should be as harsh as possible. Things I would definitely want my beta to pay attention to include, but are not limited to-
-Sentence structure. I sometimes have a tendency to get very repetitive with the way I word things, and I'm afraid that will be boring for the reader.
-Lack of definitive language. I noticed during edits that I often fall back with words like, "sometimes," and "seemed." I've fixed most of it, but I want to be sure I'm not still scared of it.
-Characterization. Making sure characters stay consistent with their personalities and all that.
-Making sure the world in the story makes sense.
-GETTING OUT HARRY POTTER. I discovered, to my horror, that there are a lot of accidental Harry Potter-ish moments. Hopefully, I've removed the majority of them, but you never know. You just never know.
So that's what I need. Just some help, but some harsh help, if that's what it takes to get this thing suited up for print. If you can get it done within 2-4 weeks, also, that would be great. Thanks all! If you want to help, you can reply to this, drop me a PM, or e-mail me. My address is [email protected].
