Who else listens to music for creativity when writing a script? Does it help anyone else think or get in the "mood" for the scenerio?
I often will listen to a piece of music and come up with a great idea for a short film where it can be used as incidental music to help set a mood.
Unfortunately, I never actually script any of them out because I have no way to make any of them. So I just shut my eyes and drift away to alternative realities of motor racing, interstellar flight and long deeply for a Canon XL2 to be mysteriously left on my doorstep wrapped up safely in a wicker basket with a note saying, 'please give me a loving home.'

I listen to all kinds of music while driving or going throughout my day. But when it comes to writing I usually prefer complete silence.. on some occasions I'll listen to things that relax me, lately Enya. I'll usually do this during a cooling off stage, like reviewing fresh material.
my 'creativity' and music are closely linked. if i have my druthers, music is playing when i write. and i've been writing (fiction, not a script, still working on that one) as some kick ass songs comes on the radio, sending me off on a tangent that alters the whole damn thing. i've been known to sit back from the keyboard and listen to a particular song ten times in a row as i define the idea i got from the song.
I listen to music when writing. During one script I wrote recently, I listened to one particular CD a lot.

In my head, I already hear the songs that I imagine in certain spots of my "movie", so, I put these songs on a loop in Winamp, and listen to them over and over again, while I am writing.
On a side note, I used to study for tests, by listening to Metallica. I would sing the questions and answers along with the music out loud. It sounds funny, but, when I would get to class for the test, I would always remember what I needed to remember.

It depends on where I'm writing ... usually I'm in a café with my notebook, where obviously there's sound everywhere, but nothing I pay particular attention to. When I'm at home, I often listen to music when I write - but preferably instrumental music, since otherwise I'd pay too much attention to the lyrics. Carter Burwell's HAMLET score is one of my favorite CDs in that regard.

I "listen" to music while I write. Not that I pay any attention to the words. The sing just has to have beat and rhythm enough to keep my mind occupied while it concentrates on what is being written.
But of course I listen to music while I'm driving (a car just works better with the radio in the on position), playing Nascar video games (a five hundred mile race can wear on your nerves if you don't have a little distraction), working around the house (I installed a faucet in about a playing and a half of "Insomniatic" by Aly and AJ) and working on computers (with music hard drive takes three minutes to install without takes three hours...J/K).
So in short music is a constant thing for me and I must have it to write. Plus the mood of the song will effect the writing style a have and the approach I take to a scene)

I recently got an XL2 and have been loving it. Not sure about the UK market, but with the HD revolution going on, you can find great deals on them here in the states. I got mine off Craigslist for $2500.
Sometimes I prefer silence, but I usually listen to music while writing. It helps me get in the mood and blocks out real-world distractions. With my last screenplay, for example, I had Buckethead's Electric Dreams looping whilst I wrote.

I have scores to match each scene, especially action scenes. Music keeps my brain all juicy!

I usually start out listening to music, but end up turning it off. Music prepares my mind to enter the creative zone. Otherwise half of my head still in the real world.
I have three kids and a husband and no where to hide. I use music to help streamline my thoughts and tune everything else out. I use mostly instrumental, no vocals, very few albums can I listen to that have lyrics and not interfere with my thoughts. Movie Soundtracks are great for this.
