Why 21 for Erotica board?

I'm and have been writing erotica for years. I came to Absolute Write specifically because I want a community of other erotica writers and so I can get my writing critiqued. But I can't do that latter because I'm not 21! Why is this rule in place. It makes me very frustrated.

Thanks,

Twyna

I think the owner and moderators believed that for a board of people of all ages, a password protection needed to be in place for erotic writing. The age limit seemed appropriate (though 18 seems logical, they have chosen 21). maybe you can talk to someone about permissions.

Because people under the age of 21 shouldn't be thinking of relations of the sweaty sort, let along writing about them! If they do, what happens is, their mind rots and they grow up to be very, very naughty!

Like Trish.

:)

Actually, Trish's explanation pretty much covers it. Perhaps Veinglory, our Erotica Dom, I mean, Mod (dang dyslexia!) will be along to explain some of the finer details, if necessary.

I'm sure it's also got something to do with laws, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and exposing 'children' to porn - there are legal ramifications that could get the owner of the board in really, really, REALLY hot water.

I'm not sure about this board, but I've been a mod on other writers sites. Because the web is an international venue, not all countries have 18 as the legal age for adult content. 21 is the age of majority pretty much everywhere, so it's the safest way for site owners to protect themselves against charges that could shut the site down for everyone.

It's a bother, but in this day and age, it's a necessary bother. Unfortunately.

Have you considered trying to connect independently with other erotica writers in the writing buddy forum for critiques?

Good luck.

Actually, it would be even easier to just use the legal age of majority under the law of whatever country the user is from. That covers both the different ages and the needless bother this user is suffering from.

writing erotica for YEARS?!? and you're not 21?!?!? oh my...

As a published writer of erotica, I can advise you that even my pseudonym's website has an age restriction of 21. I'm not sure what the guidelines are for Literotica are, but I think they may be 18 and up if you want to take a look at them.

You aren't missing anything.

There are two pages of posts.

The most replies to any one post is 15 on the first page. A whopping 129 for one on the second page. There are only two posts whose replies exceed twenty. The rest are teens and single digits.

The most views to any one post is 176 on the first page.

Page 2 begins December 3'rd 2006 (first post in the room).

The 4th post down on the first page is from September.

I would venture that it would almost be impossible to find a place less exciting to post or read erotica on the entire planet regardless of your age.

The folks who've answered the question have pretty much hit the nail on the head. It's a board with an international membership, and the legal advice I got before even opening a SYW section for erotica was pretty specific about the age limit needing to be 21, for several excellent reasons.

yes! A really charismatic, compulsive liar named Frank. he gets a large following of people in his small dysfunction-haven of a small town. Everyone thinks Frank speaks truth, but he doesn't.

A dark, evil place.
They won't let me in there either. They claim they're afraid I'll never leave.

No, actually, it doesn't legally; this is something that's sort of odd on the 'net in the U.S.
