I've never worked in that kind of atmosphere myself. What the heck do they do?
I'm writing a couple scenes where a guy works in a maze of cubicles, but I have no idea what he actually does. It's not important to the story, really, because the dialogue takes place at the water cooler and in the rest room. I just need the character to be surrounded by other people going about their work, but I should mention a word or two of what he's actually doing.
My first thought was telemarketer. Then I thought of accountant and some kind of insurance man, but have no idea what they actually do.
Anyone care to offer a couple basic facts that I could use? I admit my imagination isn't too great in this area, possibly due to my history of back-breaking manual labor jobs. I can write volumes on those.
