Sad news: Terry Pratchett diagnosed with Alzheimer's

It's hard not to read this and swear all over the place. :(

Pterry has been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer's. Many sympathies and best wishes to him.

I think it says everything you need to know about Pterry that even an announcement of this kind made me smile.

Maybe his statement should have read "I aten't dead", ala Granny Weatherwax.

Humor aside (which just sounds wrong when discussing anything Pratchett), it's very sad news.

Nothing lasts forever.

But Alzheimer's... God, that's an awful way to go.

Fuck.

But what a fantastic attitude the man has. I've only read a couple of his books but this makes me feel :( .

Early onset isn't pleasant.

This is just so bloody unfair.

Terry Pratchett has such a brilliant, creative mind and such sharp wit...

Damn.

He says he hopes to write several more books, and I sincerely hope that he does. What a wonderful, optimistic person, and what a terrible, terrible shame.

But he's not dead yet. :)

If you want to do something positive, let's all go donate some funds to Alzheimer's researchers.

Also, stemcell research never sounded so good to me, and it sounded pretty good to me before.

I don't think he is going anywhere any time soon. Other than donating to research buying one of his books might help ;)

I'm heartbroken. In part for myself, because I turn to his books when nothing else appeals or I'm grouchier than usual, and, without fail, he gets me caught up in the story and makes me laugh.

And I'm heartbroken for him, because it must be terrifying for someone who lives to write, as he seems to do, to anticipate a future (however distant, and I do hope it's distant) when he can't write the way he wants to.

Never read his work though I see his books everywhere. I've often intended to read one, actually i've been scolded for not having done so yet. I guess it's about time.

As for the dreaded "A", it sucks in such an uncool way. It's sad to see it happen to anyone, but worse to those of a cerebrial nature.
