Were they ever? I've never watched them and don't even get outraged over them anymore. Trent scares me.

In my mind, they're kind of like fanfic awards

I don't even know the current and recent pop songs. Perhaps it's me that has become irrelevant...

I think people only watch them any more just to find out who gets the Best New Artist and if they can break the curse that goes with it.

The Grammy's honored a lip syniching duo with a best song award not aware that they couldn't sing a note. "You can't do that" What more do you need to know??? The Beatles -1 grammy- hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. These guys know talent.....

You have to admit, it did take balls to give the metal/hard rock grammy to Jethro Tull over Metallica.

That was so awesome. They had to have known that twenty years later, stoners in ripped denim vests would still cry about it.

(nothing wrong with metallica, but jethro tull is eight billion times more deserving)

I wondered about the Jethro Tull thing since Metallica was the current state of metal at the time and Tull hadn't really put anything out in quite some time.

That said, the Grammy's are probably as relevent today as they ever were.

Trent Reznor is the one that is irrelevent.

I think the fact that the folks running the Grammy's honestly had no clue what Heavy Metal even was tells us all we need to know. They're supposed to be the authorities, but they didn't understand a simple distinction between classic rock and heavy metal, much less the nuanced sub-genres within Rock / Metal. But on the up side, it was the answer to the first ever million-dollar-question on Who Wants to be a Millionaire and I knew the answer and my dad didn't, so that totally made it worth it for me.

The Gammy's, and all of the other award shows, are just an excuse for all of the celebrities to get out and be seen. None of the award shows mean anything...just like the Rock-n-Roll HoF.
