Just posting this here! I am now eligible to join PAN, just in time for my 2008 dues renewal. Yay!

Hi all--

Just tooting my own horn, here. Landed a deal with two different publisher---one an e-pub, the other a traditional print---on the same book. My agent was able to work out an agreement between the two publishers to get my book distributed in both formats worldwide. Yay.

I write erotic romance under the pseudonym "Jamaica Layne." My first novel under that pen name, Market For Love, is now out in e-book form from New Concepts Publishing. You can purchase an electronic version of the book by visiting http://www.newconceptspublishing.com/marketforlove.htm

If you prefer to read your books in traditional print form, a print edition of Market For Love will be released by Virgin Books in August 2008; this edition will be available in the erotica section at your local bookstore or on Amazon.com, BarnesandNoble.com, and other online booksellers.

Virgin Books is also asking for right of first refusal on all my future erotica books.

Mega CONGRATS on your sales! Excellent news!

Virgin Books is also asking for right of first refusal on all my future erotica books.

No. Do NOT give them right of first refusal on ALL your future erotica books. You give them right of first refusal on your NEXT erotica book that suits the publishing guidelines. SINGULAR. Next BOOK. ONE.

You do not want to tie yourself in perpetuity to one publisher.

LOL - Look, the glow of the sale hasn't even dimmed yet, and already you find yourself facing important business details. <G>

Welcome to this side of the fence. :)

Correction

Yes, Susan you are correct. I did not give them ROFR in perpetuity, just on my next book.

They have right of first refusal on the next one only, per my contract. They don't have it in perpetuity. But I know that with each subsequent book of mine they buy, they will want ROFR on each book I write next. Since they seem to want me to write a lot for them, it could end up being quite a long time where they have ROFR on my erotica titles (one at a time, nevertheless), since I anticipate writing 2-4 titles per year for them.

They are also restricted to ROFR on erotica titles published under my erotica pseudonym ONLY, not other romance/general fiction titles.

But a good point to make at any rate, Susan, for those other aspiring authors on the board to be aware of.

.

Excellent! You always want as restrictive an options clause as you can get. Good. :)

Wow, congrats!! New Concepts is a terrific publisher--but I am curious, are they okay with the print form being pubbed somewhere else? I ask since they also do print books.

New Concepts only publishes a tiny fraction of its titles in print. Since there was little to no chance they would put my book in print form, and a 100% chance Virgin would (and pay a sizable advance besides) my agent and I were able to negotiate that with them. But I doubt you could negotiate something like that with either publisher without an agent involved.

You're a fine example of perserverance paying off. I jusy bought a copy of MFL and it looks like a lot of fun (this coming from someone who usually only reads non-fiction, and never romance/erotica.) Really looking forward to reading some of your writing and this will hold me over til Wacko.

Congrats.

I don't know anything about New Concepts, but Virgin is -- I'm pretty sure I have this right -- part of Random House. They publish Dr. Who <g>.

These sound like great publishers. So cool. Congratulations.

Yes, they are indeed part of Random House. Virgin is based in the UK, but its titles are circulated worldwide. It is indeed supercool to be a Random House author!

There were major managerial changes at Hazelden Publishing right after I signed my book deal with them; as a result the publication of WACKO will be delayed. I'll post here and on my blog as soon as I have a new release date.
