Okay, I'm a little confused here. Would I write "on to" or "onto" in this sentence?

“You have done it. It is time to move on to your next trial.”

Help!

Use "on to".

Onto is a preposition:

Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1)
on·to –preposition 1.to a place or position on; upon; on: to get onto a horse. 2.Informal. in or into a state of awareness about: I'm onto your scheme. –adjective 3.Also, surjective. Mathematics. pertaining to a function or map from one set to another set, the range of which is the entire second set.

Move on... to... your next trial. "Move on" is one unit; "to" is another...

Onto has a specific meaning (yeah, what Duncan said):

I jumped onto the box and started yelling, "Don't use onto!"

Not to mention your bloody grammar/spell check will forever try to make you change it back and forthe...forth...(stupid word)!

If ever the chance, try the demo of StyleWriter. It catches much of these. It's a pricey software $150.00, but verra much worth the dollars, lass.

Hey! I lived in Palmdale once...someone from 'home'! *waves*

Cool. I'll look into it when I have money. :)

I used to cut through Edwards AFB to work...on days they weren't checking for military i.d.

Looong time ago. Now you have to supply DNA. Anyhoo, that's somewhat how I met my husband. And flew the coop.

Welcome to AW!

Onto as placement: he put the plate onto the table
on to as next time wise: on to the next town to pillage
